Wyoma Strong Obituary

Wyoma Jean Strong

Wyoma Jean Strong, 92, of Risingsun, died peacefully with her children at her bedside Monday, Sept. 16, 2024. She was born Dec. 19, 1931, to Leona (Brobst) and Edgar Layton in Fostoria.

She married Paul Rudolph Strong on Nov. 24, 1951. He preceded her in death in 1981.

Jean was a rambunctious child and full of light. Her older sister Ruthanne taught her to ride a bike when she was young. They would ride their bikes down to the quarry in Fostoria, and jump off the edge to swim. She loved to bake, especially during the holidays, and would bake at least 6-8 pies, because" you could never have too many". Jean enjoyed hosting meals with her family in her home in Rising Sun, and she would get out all the fixins. She loved to give advice, chat about her life, especially her childhood, and enjoyed watching true crime shows with her kids and grandkids.

She really enjoyed being with her children and her grandchildren, and even their friends, especially on the holidays. Jean loved the outdoors, she was a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church, Risingsun and was passionate about gardening. She enjoyed listening to the birds, tending to her vegetable and flower gardens, and doting on stray cats that would come along. Jean loved to get her hair done, and hated it when her hair was a mess! She would also stop to eat after many appointments and Chinese was her favorite.

She is survived by four of her children, Linda Dorsey Bethel (Leslie Nikolaus), Paul Strong (Vickie King), Ellen Stoudinger (Matt Cunningham) and LaVonne Dawson; her grandchildren, Chuck, Shawna, Nichole, Barb, Smokey, Tony, David, Melissa, Valerie, Wesley, Emily, Danny, PJ, Joey, Angel and Kristy.; 44 great-grandchildren; and 25 great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her children, Loretta Mathias, Calvin Strong and Penny Strong; a granddaughter Holly Anne Vore; her parents; four sisters; and three brothers.

Her funeral will be at 1 p.m. Friday, Sept. 20, 2024 at Harrold-Floriana Funeral Home, Fostoria, with Pastor Daniel Lucien officiating. Visitation will take place 2 hours prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial will be at Fountain Cemetery, Fostoria, at a later date.

Memorials can be made to Fostoria Garden Club or Wood County Committee on Aging.
