Sue Swisher Obituary

Sue A. Swisher

Sue A. Swisher, 89, of Findlay, died Thursday, February 6, 2025, at Brookdale Senior Living. She was born October 8, 1935, to Orville J. Cooper and Catharine (Dillon) Cooper. On March 24, 1955, she married Charles Lee Swisher, and they were married for 64 years, until his death in 2019. Sue and Charlie had four children and raised them in Rawson. There they were members of New Hope United Methodist Church where Sue sang in the choir and New Hope Belles. She also volunteered actively and was a member of Child Conservation League. They later moved to Martin, Ohio where they lived for 35 years. After her children had grown, Sue enjoyed power walking, logging many miles on her almost daily walks, often recruiting friends and family to join in. She was also a big fan of Cleveland Guardians (Indians) baseball team.

In her early years, Sue worked for Findlay Hancock County Public Library and even served as storyteller on the radio before moving to Rawson and working at Bower Hardware. Later she worked for Toledo Blade Federal Credit Union where she would retire from. Sue was an avid seamstress, enjoying her sewing room to create items for family and friends. Sue and her beloved Charlie spent many summers fishing and enjoying the outdoors at their cottage in Nettle Lake, hosting family and friends for fishing tournaments, campfires, and afternoons on the pontoon boat. After retirement, they spent their winters at Piney Point in Palmetto, Florida, where Sue enjoyed reading many books in the Florida sunshine.

Sue is survived by her sons, David (Pat) Swisher of Jenera, Douglas (Annette) Swisher of Rawson, and Michael (Michelle) Swisher of Martin; her daughter, Karen (Mark) Emerine of Fostoria; 11 grandchildren, Stephanie Stauffer, Kerri Falke, Shane Swisher, Lesa Shouse, Amy Davis, Lee Swisher, Tara Elchert, Adrienne Rumschlag, Kate Hutson, Kimberly Zilmer, and Elizabeth Swisher; stepgrandsons, Steve Shoemaker, Scott Shoemaker, Tommy Shoemaker, Ivan Shoemaker; 18 great-grandchildren; She is also survived by her siblings, Barbara Hovis, Evelyn (Richard) Bartchlett, Jeanne (Terry) Bowen, and James (Sharon) Cooper; and sisters-in-law, Sharon Swisher, and Beverly Cooper.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Orville and Catharine (Dillon) Cooper; husband, Charles Swisher; her brother, John Cooper Sr.; and sister, Elva Peterson.

In recent years, her memory declined due to dementia, but her laughter was always bright and clear. The family has many cherished memories of their matriarch, and now she too has gained her memories back while reunited with her darling Charlie. The family expresses deep gratitude to Brookdale Senior Living in Findlay for the exceptional and loving care the last five years.

Visitation will be from 3-7 p.m. Friday, February 14, 2025, at COLDREN-CRATES FUNERAL HOME, Findlay. Funeral services with Pastor Ron Cooper and Pastor Gregg Fox will begin at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, February 15, 2025, along with graveside services at her final resting place, Maple Grove Cemetery.

Memorials can be made to Brookdale Activities Fund, or Alzheimer's Association. Online condolences can be expressed to the family by visiting www.coldrencrates.com.

I have many childhood memories with Sue and Charlie. Such a beautiful, caring couple. I have so many memories of fishing, walking, and bike riding with Sue. She even opened her house to me so I could come and practice piano multiple times a week until we got our own piano, often helping me learn to play. Prayers to the family.
