Ronald L. "Ron" Meyer
Ronald L. "Ron" Meyer, 83, of Fostoria, passed away unexpectedly Friday April 21, 2023, at his home.
Ron was born Nov. 7, 1939, in Ypsilanti, Michigan, to Louis and Florence (Klausing) Meyer. He married Mary (Betty) Koch on June 23, 1962, at St. Wendelin Catholic Church, and she preceded him in death July 27, 2018.
Ron is survived by a son, Jeff Meyer of Tucson, Arizona; daughter and son-in-law, Kathy (Richard) Wilfong of Fostoria; two granddaughters and soon to be grandson-in-law, Michelle (Stephen Karkoska) Wilfong of Findlay and Stephanie Wilfong of Fostoria; sister and brother-in-law, Pat (Tom) Norris of Hilliard; brother and sister-in-law, Tom (Diane) Meyer of Findlay; sister-in-law, Nancy Brown of Ashland; nephews, Greg (Kerry) Norris of Hilliard, Rob (Karen) Norris of Hilliard, Shawn (Meg) Meyer of Columbus, Mark Elchert Jr. of Tiffin, and Donald (Karen) Elchert of Delaware; nieces, Megan (Matt) Coppus of Fostoria and Judy Ludlam of Ashland; and great-nephews, Jacob, Logan, Max, Alex, and Brian.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Louis and Florence; wife, Betty (Mary); mother-in-law, Oleva (Williams) Koch; and two sisters, Nancy Meyer and Janet Meyer.
Ron was a 1957 graduate of Hopewell-Loudon High School and member of St. Wendelin Catholic Church.
He met his wife Betty on a blind date set up by mutual friends of the couple Helen and Jerry Arnold.
Ron retired from Union Carbide (Morgan Mechanical) where he was a journeyman electrician and mechanic.
He looked forward to the retiree breakfast and meeting up with all the guys on Friday at Dell's. While attending Hopewell-Loudon, Ron excelled on the basketball court.
Ron spent many weekends at Indian Lake fishing and took many fishing trips to Canada with long time friend, Paul Karg. His last one was in 2018 with his nephew, Donnie.
Ron also enjoyed playing euchre with long-time friends Vernon and Ruthann Gruble, or at St. Patricks Church, New Riegel Moose, or wherever he could find a game being played. Ron enjoyed helping when able with Knights of Columbus fish fries and was a member of Knights of Columbus council #1197.
Ron was on Union Carbide bowling team and you could find him out at Dunn's Lane on league night in his younger years.
Ron and Betty went on many trips with JB Tours. Their all-time favorite was their trip to Alaska. They also enjoyed the elusive mystery trips. You never knew where you would end up.
If you knew Ron, he was never at a loss for words. He could turn a five-minute story into a hour conversation. He kept his daughter and son-in-law very busy trying to keep him out of trouble after Betty's death which at times was a full-time job. He would help anyone who needed it. His greatest joy were his two granddaughters, Michelle and Stephanie, attending every band concert, sporting event, and any activity that they participated in while in high school. Last year, he watched both of them graduate from college and have successful careers.
Ron was always looking forward to the Meyer Corn Roasts and Family Christmas get-togethers.
The family would like to thank his special friend, Marilyn, for the past few years for her companionship and friendship to Ron.
