Neal Lester Obituary

Neal D. Lester

Franklin, NH - Neal Dustin Lester, 82, of Franklin, NH, passed away peacefully at his home on August 31, 2025. Neal was born on August 12, 1943, in Claremont, NH to the late Charles and Ruth Lester. He was preceded in death by his brother C. Russell Lester (Shirley) and sister Sheryl Gritsavage (Clem).

He is survived by his wife, Linda Lester of 21 years; his children, Laura Lee (Christian) of Bluffton, SC; Mark Lester (Jeanne) of Franklin, NH; Julie-Anne LeCompte (Mark) of Londonderry, NH; Wendy Piquette (Joseph) of Camarillo, CA, and his step-daughters Cherie D'Souza (Ivan) of Watertown, MA; Heather Chaplin (Brian) of Laconia, NH, 17 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren.

Neal was a hard-working and dedicated employee of the New Hampshire Technical Institute for 26 years before he retired in 2007. He was fondly remembered as the one who wore shorts all year long regardless of the weather. Despite his many responsibilities, he always found time to engage everyone in conversation.

Neal was a man of varied interests, a collector of novelties and a Yankee bargain hunter. He left a lasting impact on everyone who knew him. Neal was a man of deep convictions and was not shy about sharing his opinion. One conviction he wanted to share with everyone was his relationship with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. The decision he made in 1972 to give his life to Jesus was his key motivation to share the Gospel of forgiveness only found at the foot of the Cross of Calvary and the freedom and hope that only Jesus can provide.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date.

As the current president at NHTI, I did not have the good fortune to work with Neal, but his reputation and memory remain strong at the college. We bless him for all his great good deeds, and we share our sadness with his circles of love that he is no longer with us physically. But he lives on in all of those he touched with his love and care.

Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of his saints" - Psalm 116:15. Neal will be deeply missed, our thoughts and prayers for Linda and Neal's children in this time of loss. I have known him for nearly 45 years and he has been a faithful friend. He was a true friend. My kids grew up calling him "Uncle Neal" as he was one of their "foundational people" as my daughter expressed.

I grew up on Canaan St with the Lesters, Russ, Neal and Sheri. They were older then I was, but we were all good friends. Enjoyed the Friday nite dances at the Methodist Church on Canaan, St. Neal was always a happy guy, and nice to visit with. My thoughts and prayers to his family. Ron Filfalt
