Nancy Ann Romine
Beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend passed away peacefully Tuesday, January 14, 2025, in Columbus. Born April 3, 1934, Nancy spent her final years at Westerwood Assisted Living in Columbus. Despite living with dementia in her later years, she remained remarkably independent-carrying forward her warmth, resilience, and steadfast love of family and community.
Nancy was dedicated to education and service throughout her life. After completing her undergraduate degree, she earned a Master of Science in Speech and Hearing and taught in Illinois and Ohio. She later returned to Bowling Green State University to obtain certification in Learning Disabilities and Behavior Disorders, reflecting her passion for helping students overcome challenges and realize their potential.
Nancy and her late husband, Donald J. Romine, a University of Illinois graduate and retired ceramic engineer, lived in northwest Ohio and southeastern Michigan before settling into retirement in East Tennessee, on Cherokee Lake. In Jefferson City, Tennessee, she became a beloved figure in the community, volunteering at the local library for over 20 years, assisting at an Alzheimer's day care facility, singing in her church choir, and giving her time to numerous community causes. Her dedication to education continued into retirement, teaching part-time in the local school system and at Jefferson County Detention Facility, consistently offering support and encouragement to individuals in need.
Nancy is survived by her three sons, John Romine of Columbus, Thomas Romine of Somerset, New Jersey, and Michael Romine of La Jolla, California; as well as five grandchildren, Samantha Vecchione, Dillon, Jeffrey, Teagan, and Rook Romine.
A memorial service celebrating Nancy's life will be Saturday, April 5, 2025, at First Presbyterian Church in Jefferson City, Tennessee. Following the service, Nancy's ashes will be laid to rest alongside her husband, Donald, in West Frankfort, Illinois.
In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests that donations be made in Nancy's memory to the
Dementia Society of America in tribute to her personal journey with dementia and her lifelong dedication to serving others.
Nancy Ann Romine will be remembered for her generous spirit, kind heart, and unwavering commitment to education, volunteering, and uplifting those around her. While she will be dearly missed, her legacy lives on in the many lives she touched, the compassion she showed, and the enduring love she shared with her family and friends.
