Edward J. "Ed" Souder

Edward J. "Ed" Souder, 99, a lifelong Fostoria resident, passed away Monday, January 26, 2026, at his Elm Street home. Ed was proud of having lived on the same block his entire life.

He was born October 13, 1926, in Fostoria to the late Harry and Bessie (Dewald) Souder. He married Mary Alice Creeger, May 20, 1950, at the former SS Patrick & Andrew Catholic Church in Bascom, and she preceded him in death April 1, 2004.

Surviving are seven children, John (Peg) Souder, James (Shirley) Souder, Janet Nunziato, Jean (Joel Hutchins) Souder, Joseph Souder (Karen), Jeffrey (Amy) Souder and Jerry Souder; 25 grandchildren; and 35 great-grandchildren.

He was also preceded in death by sisters, Eloise Davis, Kathryn Zartman and Wanda Benninghoff; brothers, Lowell, Kenneth, Charles, Harold, and Raymond Souder; and a granddaughter, Allyson Souder.

Ed was a 1944 graduate of Fostoria High School and served in the United States Army from 1945-1946 during WWII. He worked for Nickel Plate Railroad from 1950-1962 and at Union Carbide from 1962-1987. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church, AMVETS, American Legion of Fostoria and Harley Owners Group.

When you left us, you took a piece of each of our hearts with you, but know that you live on in us in countless funny, crazy, delightful and wonderful memories." Visitation is 2-5 p.m. Sunday, February 1, 2026, at HOENING & SON FUNERAL HOME, 133 W. Tiffin St., Fostoria, Ohio 44830. Funeral service begins at 11 a.m. Monday, February 2, 2026, at the funeral home with the Rev. James Sharrett presiding. Burial will follow at Fountain Cemetery, where military honors will be performed by United Veterans of Fostoria Honor Guard. A funeral luncheon will follow at the funeral home reception area.
