Michael A. Elchert

Michael A. Elchert, 78, of Tiffin, passed away Thursday, July 6, 2023, at his residence surrounded by his family.

Michael was born Dec. 24, 1944, in Tiffin, to Eugene and Mary (Hartzell) Elchert. He married Elizabeth "Beth" Thornton Myers on Oct. 30, 1995, at Presbyterian Church in Tiffin and she survives in Tiffin.

Michael's other survivors include his children, Cathy (Rick) Keeran of Marion, Stephen Elchert of Toledo, Lucas (Caitlin) Elchert of Findlay, and Andrew (Teah) Elchert of Vass, North Carolina; two stepdaughters, Staci (Manuel) Garcia of Saginaw, Michigan, and April (Fenton) Hanchett of Tiffin; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; brother, Chris (Lisa) Elchert of Tiffin; and two sisters, Marilyn Rohrbach of Tiffin and Victoria (Rick) Moore of Upper Sandusky.

Michael retired from Seneca County Job and Family Services where he worked in maintenance and met his wife. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church. Michael was an U.S. Army veteran, serving from 1962-1964 in Germany and received his Bachelor Degree of Science in Social Work from Bowling Green State University.

Michael enjoyed his retirement years landscaping and creating projects for his property near 224 and US 23. He loved gardening, pulling pranks on friends, and spending time with his wife and pets. His dog, Summer, became his constant companion the last few years.

Michael was preceded in death by his parents; six brothers, Gregory, David, Benedict, Nicholas, Timothy, and infant brother Eugene Elchert; and two sisters, Rosalie Brickner and Betty Doerfer.

Michael's memorial service will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, July 11, 2023, at St. Joseph Catholic Church with the Rev. Anthony Coci officiating. A Rosary will be recited 30 minutes prior to the service at the church. Burial will follow services Tuesday at the parish cemetery with military rites being rendered by United Veterans Council.
