Frank Kinn Obituary

Frank J. Kinn

Frank J. Kinn, 93, of Fostoria, passed away peacefully Thursday June 27, 2024, at his home in Fostoria.

He was born July 2, 1930, to Lucian and Alma (Huss) Kinn. Frank married Dolores M. Kulsea on May 27, 1989, and she preceded him in death Sept. 15, 2023.

Frank is survived by his sister, Marylin Kinn of Fostoria; and nieces and nephews, Joanie Keegan Kowalkowski of Illinois, Jan (Phil) Beachler of Dayton, Patti (Doug) Lohse of Cincinnati, Jim (Nancy) Thomas of Greenville, South Carolina, Frank (Patte) Thomas of Connersville, Indiana, Theresa (the late George) Owens of Lafayette, Indiana, Sherri (Brian) Leedke of Indianapolis, Indiana, Karen Backus of Bowling Green, Debbie (Paul) D'Alesio of Englewood, Florida, and Karolyn Sallows of Sylvania. Frank had many great-nieces and great-nephews, some of whom he was especially close to, Andrzej Kowalkowski of St. Louis, Missouri, Nicholas (Brie) Kowalkowski of Indianapolis, Indiana, Patrick (Erika) Kowalkowski of Chicago, Illinois, and Katelin Kowalkowski of Oconomowoc, Wisconsin. Frank is loved by many other great-nieces and great-nephews. He is also survived by stepchildren from a former marriage, Janet (Jack) Sears of Fostoria, David (Kristy) Folkwein of Hilton Head, South Carolina, Linda (Ron) Dye of Fostoria, and Lori (Scott) Skiljan of Chagrin Falls.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Dolores; parents; sister, Lucia Ann (Shannie) (Bill) Thomas; and brothers, Edward and James.

The family would like to extend tremendous gratitude to his primary caregiver, Cathy Ferguson, who has been by Dolores and his side for many years. She is like family, having taken care of Frank's mother, Dolores's mother, Dolores, and now Frank, and we are truly grateful for her loving care.

The family would also like to sincerely express their gratitude to his other caregivers, Jean Hornbeck and Sharon Hubbell (sisters of Cathy Ferguson), Carol Jurrus, Kelly Colich, Iyona Murphy, and Kadalena Duran, who cared for him lovingly.

Frank graduated from University of Pennsylvania and University of Michigan. He was formerly a partner in Fruth and Company, President of the Commercial Bank and Saving Company, and Secretary/Treasurer and Chief Financial Officer of Roppe Corporation, all of Fostoria.

Frank was devoted to Fostoria and its development. He was active in the community with Fostoria United Way, Geary Family YMCA, St. Wendelin Educational Foundation, Fostoria Rotary Club, Fostoria Economic Development Corporation, Good Shepherd Home, Fostoria Community Hospital, First Federal Bank, and Sisters of Notre Dame Province in Toledo. He was also active in Hilltop and a Graduate Member of Fostoria University Club.

Frank enjoyed traveling with Dolores and annual family vacations in Florida. He loved spending time with family and friends, and playing cards, especially Pinnacle on the front porch of the family cottage. In his spare time, Frank loved music, gardening, golf, boating, and fishing. He and Dolores loved attending Michigan football games with friends to cheer on the Wolverines, and was passionate about winning. Frank, also known as "Uncle Bud," was referred to as a "supreme elder" by his family. He cherished the time he spent at the "Kinn Cottage," starting the evening festivities with a Manhattan toast.

I just received a sympathy card in the mail that I had sent to Frank after just recently finding out that Delores had passed away last year. Frank didn't let me know. I didn't know Frank. Only met him once. But Delores & her parents were friends of our family & we lived just 2 doors from her parents drug store.
Delores was in my oldest sister's wedding & both of her parents were in my parents wedding. I loved Stella so much. She was the sweetest lady.
I had met Delores a couple of times for lunch in Perrysburg, as I live in Temperance, MI. I always kept her up to date about the neighborhood in Jackson where we both lived.
So sorry to hear about both Frank & Delores. He had answered an email that I had sent to Delores when she was ill & had just returned home.
May they both rest in peace in heaven together. I have a mass card that I had sent to Frank for Delores. I don't know who to send it to but will try finding an address.
My deepest sympathy to all of the family.
