Francia Eckert Obituary

Francia Boltz Eckert

Francia Boltz Eckert, 81, of Bowling Green, died Saturday, April 22, 2023.

Francia was born in 1941 to H. Emerson Boltz and Edith Chase Boltz of North Baltimore. She graduated from North Baltimore High School in 1959. She attended Wittenberg University, earning a Bachelor's degree in Education, and later earned a Master's degree in Art Education at University of Toledo.

For 34 years, Francia taught elementary art in Fostoria Public Schools, known as Miss Boltz to students at schools throughout the city. She lived in Fostoria for many years, attended Wesley United Methodist Church, and was a long-time member of a local pinochle club.

In 1996, she married William Eckert of Bowling Green. Soon after, Francia retired from teaching and she and Bill moved to Bowling Green, where Francia became an active volunteer at The University of Findlay's Mazza Museum. In 2017, she and Bill moved to Brookdale Senior Living, Bowling Green.

Family, especially children, was Francia's greatest joy. She is survived by her brother, Thomas Boltz of Springfield, Virginia; nieces, Christine Boltz of Ann Arbor, Michigan, and Angela Granieri of Alexandria, Virginia; stepchildren, Kathleen Eckert Tafelski of Perrysburg, and James Eckert and Robert Eckert, both of Bowling Green; nine stepgrandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; one great-niece, and two great-nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Bill, who passed away in 2020.

Francia's funeral will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, April 29, 2023, at Dunn Funeral Home, located in the Historical District of Bowling Green at 408 West Wooster Street. The Rev. Greg Miller will officiate. Visitation will be 9-10:30 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Portage Cemetery.

As Francia was a life-long advocate for children and art education, the family suggests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Mazza Museum.

Francia was a talented artist and great friend. I have many fond memories of times spent together. There is hardly a day that goes by that I don't think of her as she wove a beautiful tapestry that hangs in my entryway. Each time I pass it by, I smile and remember our times together. She will be missed by all who knew her.

One of the most thoughtful ladies one could know. So loved the children. Great coworker, card club buddy, and friend. Would give up everything for others.

Francia and I shared a love of art and supported one another on our long treks to the University of Toledo after teaching all day to obtain an M.Ed. in art education. I´ll always be thankful for the camaraderie that made the difficulties easier. My condolences to her family.

Francia and I have been friends and education colleges for many years, As the art teacher at Riley School , she enriched the lives of my class by taking them to the Toledo Art Museum. Socially we enjoyed playing in a pinocle monthly club and attending drive-in movies, shopping, and dining out.
Francia will be in many fond memories of my life in Fostoria.
