Eugene A. "Gene" Waltz

Eugene A. "Gene" Waltz, 80, of Tiffin, passed away Thursday morning, Dec. 7, 2023, at Good Shepherd Home, Fostoria.

He was born Feb. 13, 1943, in Bloomville, to John W. and Mabel E. (Thiery) Waltz. He married Carolyn "Sue" Bernard on May 27, 1967.

Gene's survivors include his wife, Carolyn "Sue" Waltz of Tiffin; son, Jeff (Laura) Waltz of Delaware; daughter, Gina (Brian) Bennett of Tiffin; five grandchildren, Julia Waltz, Annie Waltz, Nicholas Bennett, Michael (Marissa) Bennett, and Gabrielle (Adric) Stombaugh; and two great-grandchildren, Elizabeth Jacoby and Brian Stombaugh, and Mila Bennett due Dec. 21.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Sheldon Waltz; and sister, Betty Schuman.

Gene was a 1961 graduate of Tiffin Calvert High School and attended Tiffin University. He served in U.S. Navy from Aug. 30, 1961 to Aug. 11, 1965, and worked in personnel at Excello in Fostoria for a few years and at American Standard for over 30 years. After retirement, he worked security at Mercy Hospital. He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church and the Tiffin Lions Club, where he was past President, volunteered in many positions, attended many of their conventions, and was a recipient of the Melvin Jones Award. Gene enjoyed going to the beach, watching his grandchildren's sporting events, and spending time with his friends and family.

Funeral Mass will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 12, 2023, at St. Mary Catholic Church with the Rev. Matthew Rader officiating. A Rosary will be prayed 30 minutes prior to Mass. Burial will follow at St. Mary Catholic Cemetery with military honors being conducted by United Veterans Council.

Visitation for friends and family will be 4-7 p.m. Monday, Dec. 11, 2023, at Hoffmann-Gottfried-Mack Funeral Home & Crematory, 236 S. Washington St., Tiffin, Ohio, 44883, (419) 447-2424.
