Carol Mitten Obituary

Carol M. Mitten

Carol M. Mitten, 86, passed away peacefully Tuesday, May 20, 2025, at Mercy Health - St. Vincent Medical Center, Toledo. Born November 12, 1938, in Tiffin, she lived a happy, fulfilling life based on her Catholic faith with a strong foundation of family and friends.

Carol was a loving, caring, and supportive wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend to many people for many years. She was married to Robert Mitten, her high school sweetheart, for 66 years and the beloved mother of Matt (Brenda), Phil, Mary (Phil) Carroll, Marty (Michelle), and "fourth son" Mark (Joanne) Shiple. She was the cherished grandmother of Dustin and Alisha Mitten, Shannon and Erin Carroll, Maureen (Hunter) Leggett, and Madden Pommeranz; great-granddaughter, Josephine Leggett; sister, Ancilla (Sonny) Beamer; and brother-in-law, John Neff.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Edwin and Alberta Fisher; brother, Vern Fisher; and sister, Sylvia Neff.

After graduating from Tiffin Calvert High School in 1957 and Elkhart University of Medical and Dental Technique in 1958, Carol worked as a medical laboratory technician while her husband was attending college and subsequently focused on raising their four children in Toledo. She was the matriarch and heart of her family, and she particularly enjoyed attending the sports and other activities in which her children and grandchildren participated, as well as the annual Fisher family reunions, which provided an opportunity to see her many nieces and nephews. She also enjoyed singing in her church choir, gardening, vacationing with her family at Lake James, listening to country music, Elvis Presley, and The Ohio State University Marching Band, playing Bejeweled Blitz online, and watching Judge Judy and various game shows.

May Carol rest in peace, and her memory bring comfort to all who knew and loved her.

Thank you from her family to all the medical professionals who cared for Carol during the last month of her life, especially Dr. Mike Stiff.
