Suzannah Loomis Obituary

Suzannah Jane Loomis

Suzannah Jane Loomis, 83, formerly of Fostoria, passed away peacefully Saturday, Nov. 12, 2022, at her home in Show Low, Arizona, with longtime companion, Frank Ohler, by her side. She quietly and courageously fought metastatic breast cancer in recent years.

Suzannah was born June 10, 1939, in Fostoria, to Donald E. and Dorothy J. Cole, who preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by her stepfather, Sam Boyd; and stepmother, Vi Stone. Suzannah is survived by her brother, Ronald P. Cole of Clearlake, California; and sister, Sandra L. Mellott of Bowling Green, Ohio.

Sue was a 1957 graduate of Fostoria High School. She married David C. Loomis on July 11, 1959, and he also preceded her in death. Together, they raised three sons who survive, Thom (Peg) Loomis of Fostoria, Chuck (Karen) Loomis of Somerset, Michigan, and Kent (Kathy) Loomis of Valdese, North Carolina. She is also survived by five grandchildren, Amber (Mark) Moore, Stephanie Loomis, Brittany Loomis, Keith (Annie) Loomis, and Kristy Jane Loomis; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Throughout her years in Fostoria, Sue was always active in the community. She and Dave owned and operated Dave's Schwinn Bicycle Store from 1974-1991 and also owned the Apple-A-Day health food store. Sue served on Hope Lutheran Church Council, Fostoria YMCA Board of Directors, and was a past Board Member of Fostoria Chapter of the American Red Cross. Following her divorce from Dave in 1990, Sue worked as Assistant Tour Director for Great Ohio Bicycle Adventure, was a bus driver for Fostoria City Schools, was a licensed real estate agent, and was employed by U.S. Post Office in Fostoria. She was a lifelong fan of Ohio State Buckeyes and Cleveland Indians and a strong and fiercely loyal fan of Fostoria Redmen. She enjoyed closely following the Redmen basketball team who has been coached by her son, Thom, for the past six years.

In 1992, Suzannah began a relationship with Frank Ohler, and together they enjoyed a wonderful journey through life for more than 30 years. They hit the road as full-time RVers in 1993 and traveled to 49 states and all of the provinces of Canada. Together, they loved hiking and bicycling within the continental United States and visiting many U.S. National Parks and Monuments. Their adventures included occasional part-time employment in places they thoroughly enjoyed, including Yellowstone National Park, Lake Mancos Dude Ranch in Mancos, Colorado, Meteor Crater in Arizona, Adventureland Amusement Park in Altoona, Iowa, The 24 Hours of Moab in Moab, Utah, and many more. In recent years, Suzannah and Frank made their summer home in Show Low, Arizona.

The greatest joy in their adventures was found in meeting new friends and sharing in Christian fellowship. Suzannah was a faithful servant of the Lord. She enjoyed studying the Bible through Bible Study Fellowship and listening to Pastor David Jeremiah. Suzannah loved to sing hymns and songs of praise while playing her keyboard. In her final months, Suzannah found great comfort and joy in the prayers offered and hymns sung by Pastor Pete Smith and his wife, Lori.

In accordance with her wishes, Suzannah will be cremated. Frank and her three sons and their families will share in private fellowship in celebration of her life. Memorials in honor of Suzannah Jane Loomis may be made to Bible Study Fellowship in San Antonio, Texas, Fostoria Athletic Boosters, or a charitable organization of the donor's choice.

My thoughts and prayers go out to her family. She had three wonderful sons. I had the pleasure of teaching all three of them. They are outstanding young men, probably due to a strong family tie. She will be missed.
