Marvin J. "Marv" Smith

Marvin J. "Marv" Smith, 81, of Risingsun, Ohio passed away peacefully Monday, Nov. 4, 2024, at Bridge Hospice Care Center in Bowling Green.

He was born Aug. 10, 1943, in Rudolph, Ohio, to Ernest and Maxine (Franks) Smith. He married Kristi Kay Welty on Sept. 17, 1977, in Prout Chapel on the campus of Bowling Green State University, and she passed away Jan. 3, 2023.

Surviving Marv are his daughters, Elora "Lori" (Matthew Brown) Kibler of Frisco, Texas, Cheryl (Donald) Waltermier of Fostoria, Ohio; brothers, Dale Smith and Roger Smith of Wayne, Ohio, Norman (Norma) Smith of Rudolph, Ohio, Kenneth (Sally) Smith of Risingsun, Ohio; brother-in-law, Butch Corbin of Bradner, Ohio; granddaughters, Josselynn (Adam) Sweet, Raychelle (Kip) Gerstenberger, Alexandra (Geoff) Roberts, Brenna Waltermier, Devon (John) Bonilla; great-grandchildren, Lexi, Trey, Amelia, Lucy, Kaelyn, Ryder, Maylynn, Gabe, Grace, Isabelle; special family friends, Al (Jennifer) Huff of Risingsun, Ohio as well as their daughters, Samantha and Morgan, and their granddaughter, Paisley.

Marv was preceded in death by his parents, Ernest and Maxine; brothers, Darol, Ervan, Ronald; sisters, Barbara Smith, Donna Corbin, and Karen Smith.

Marv was a 1963 Graduate of Elmwood High School. He worked for ADM (Archer-Daniels-Midland) in Fostoria, Ohio for 35+ years. He also worked part time at Risingsun Elevator for 20+ years. He was a member of Risingsun Volunteer Fire Department where he was a former assistant Chief, and was also inducted into the Hall of Fame. He was a proud supporter of the Elmwood FFA, Habitat for Humanity and the Democratic Party.

Marv and Kristi loved to travel and had visited most of the 50 states, enjoyed gardening, fishing, tinkering around the house, but one of his greatest joys was building and running his model trains which was quite large and extensive.

Visitation for friends will be from 4:30–7:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 7, 2024, at Barndt Funeral Home in Wayne, Ohio. A fireman's last call service will be at 7:15 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 7, 2024. A celebration of life service will be at 10 a.m. Friday, Nov. 8, 2024, at Barndt Funeral Home with Pastor Ron Merritt officiating. Burial will be at Bradner Cemetery near Bradner, Ohio.

Memorial donations may be made to the Elmwood FFA or Habitat for Humanity.
