Maria Welch Obituary

Maria Welch

Maria Welch, 74, of Fostoria, passed away on Tuesday, February 3, 2026, at ProMedica Fostoria Community Hospital.

She was born April 22, 1951, in San Antonio, Texas, to the late Ramon and Guadalupe (Martinez) Garcia. She married Robert J. "Bob" Welch III, February 14, 1983, in Virginia Beach, Virginia, and he survives in Fostoria.

Also surviving is their daughter, Sarah Welch; seven siblings, Louis Hasso Sr., Joseph (Marilyn) Garcia, Loretta (Ron) Wischmeyer, Raymond Garcia, Daniel Garcia, Isabel (Rick) Castle, and Hortencia Adams; and multiple nieces and nephews.

She was also preceded in death by a sister, Gloria Schoonover.

Maria enjoyed cooking and baking and was well known for her homemade tamales and tortillas. Her husband always said that the highest compliment that anyone could receive for their cooking was if it was almost as good as Maria's. Maria enjoyed the simple things in life. She liked gardening, music – whether making it with the violin or listening to it, sewing, and visiting with family and long-time friends. She also enjoyed watching TV, taking scenic drives and making people laugh.

There will be no services at this time. The family is planning a celebration of life in the near future. Arrangements handled by HOENING & SON FUNERAL HOME, 133 W. Tiffin St., Fostoria, Ohio 44830.

Memorial contribu-tions are suggested to American Diabetes Association.
