Deacon John Francis Walter

Deacon John Francis Walter, 79, of Tiffin, died at 1:12 p.m. Wednesday, February 19, 2025, at Bridge Hospice Care Center, Findlay.

John was born October 1, 1945, in Tiffin to Joseph and Joan (Kuhn) Walter. On August 28, 1965, he married Julie Smith at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Tiffin, and she survives.

Other survivors include a son, John F. (Andrea) Walter of Tiffin; three daughters, Jeanine (David) Alvarado of Tiffin, Jennifer (Christopher) Carson of Westerville, Janel (John) Pardi of Manchester, Connecticut; eleven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; two brothers, Tom (Pat) Walter of Tiffin, Gerald Walter of Tiffin; two sisters, Margaret (Joseph) Lynch of Tiffin, and Susan (Donald) Caudill of Bascom; brother-in-law, Joseph (Diane) Smith of Tiffin; sisters-in-law, Janice Smith of Fostoria, and Mary Smith of Tiffin.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, James Todd Walter; and a granddaughter, Maria Christina Alvarado.

John was a 1963 graduate of Hopewell-Loudon High School, served his country in the Army from 1965-1967, in Korea, was a lifetime farmer, serving as president of the local NFO and 5th district past president of Bascom Elevator, North Central Electric Peoples Fund, and a member of the deacon council. His greatest love was teaching religious education for many years. John became a permanent deacon September 17, 2011, serving All Saints Parish, St. Patrick, and St. Andrew. He had a servant's heart for all the parishes.

Visitation will be 2-6 p.m. Sunday, February 23, 2025, at TRAUNERO FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATORY, 214 S. Monroe Street, Tiffin, Ohio 44883 (419) 447-3113, and from 10-11 a.m. Monday, February 24, 2025, at All Saints Parish, New Riegel, where funeral Mass will begin at 11 a.m. Burial will be at St. Andrew's Cemetery, Liberty Twp., with military rites conducted by United Veterans Council of Seneca County.

Memorials may be made to Bridge Hospice, Sisters of St. Francis, or All Saints Parish.
