Jeannette Schaible Obituary

Jeannette Schaible

Jeannette Shuman Schaible, a resident of Poughkeepsie, New York, for over 60 years, passed away Saturday, December 28, 2024, at age 88. Born in Carey on November 21, 1936, Jeannette was the daughter of the late Clayton and Oleafa Shuman.

An honor student at Columbian High School, Jeannette played the coronet in the band. She graduated from Columbian in 1954 and Capital University in 1958. She helped in her family's business, the Polar Bar on Route 53.

She married Paul M. Schaible at St. Paul's Methodist Church in 1959, and taught math in northern Ohio until moving to New York in 1964.

An active church member, Jeannette participated in various religious and charitable activities, playing her coronet and guitar. For fun, Jeannette played tennis well into her 70s, and enjoyed working a number of years shuttling cars to New York area airports for Hertz. Jeannette remained an avid Cleveland Indians fan.

She is survived by her husband, Paul, currently in home hospice care; their son, David Schaible; brothers, Fred and David Shuman; sisters, Deborah Smith and Cheryl Morton; and many nephews, nieces, and other loving relatives and friends. Jeannette was predeceased by her parents; her stepfather, Robert A. Morton; stepbrother, Dale Morton; and son, Mark Schaible.
