Jane R. Schetter
The family of Jane R. Schetter sadly announces her passing. She passed away suddenly Monday, March 13, 2023, at the family farm home north of Fostoria. She was 76.
Jane was a wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, friend, health care consultant and advocate, and teacher. Jane was born July 16, 1946, in Fostoria, to Kenneth and Madonna (Howard) Roberts. Jane attended Jackson-Liberty School in Amsden as an elementary student before attending St. Wendelin Schools, Fostoria, where she graduated in 1964. Following high school, Jane earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Mary Manse College in Toledo with an emphasis in Music Education. She married Thomas Schetter on Aug. 19, 1967, at St. Wendelin Church, Fostoria. With a young family, Jane entered the nursing program at Bowling Green State University that eventually took her to Medical College of Ohio where she earned a Master of Science in Nursing with a specialty in Home Health Care.
Initially, Jane worked as a visiting nurse for Visiting Nurse Service of Toledo. She continued her nursing career at Fostoria Community Hospital where she initiated the Home Health Care Program that served the greater Fostoria area. Once the Home Health Program was established, Jane joined Fostoria Community Hospital's administrative team. While working on the hospital's administrative staff, Jane began working part-time for The Joint Commission, a Chicago based organization whose mission was/is quality in health care. Eventually her work with the Joint Commission became full-time where she worked extensively with Ohio Hospital Association. Jane also worked as a surveyor and consultant for Joint Commission devoting much of the consulting part of her career to Veterans Administration's healthcare facilities throughout the nation and in Puerto Rico. Following her retirement from The Joint Commission, Jane spent two years in a consulting capacity for Eastern Maine Hospital Association.
Jane is survived by her husband, Tom, of 55 years; son, Ed, and his daughter, Danielle (Michael Wertz); son, Tim, and his sons, Ben (Abigail Ambrose) and Zach; son, Matt, and his daughter, Lillian, and son, Liam; son, Aaron (Tiffany Wallace), and their twin children, Alexis and Dylan; daughter, Sarah; three great-granddaughters, Sachi, Tsubaki, and Orahime (parents, Danielle Schetter and Michael Wertz); brother, Ron (Paula) Roberts; sister, Judy Corner; and sister, Becky (Paul) Edgerton.
Jane was an avid reader, devoted homemaker, experienced traveler, music lover, and supporter of individuals and organizations devoted to making the world a better place. In her retirement, she acted as coordinator for a newsletter for the Fostoria St. Wendelin High School Class of 1964. She will be dearly missed by those who knew and loved her.
Arrangements are being handled by Hoening and Son Funeral Home, Fostoria.
A private ceremony for family members will be 1:30 p.m. Saturday, March 18, 2023, at Hoening and Son Funeral Home, 133 West Tiffin St., Fostoria. A public celebration of Jane's life will be 2:30-4:30 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home to which relatives and friends are invited.
In lieu of flowers, Jane's family requests that memorials be made to Cristo Rey Center Legal Immigration Services, HOPE in Fostoria (addiction prevention through education and resources),
Doctors Without Borders, or any
charity of choice.
