James Lynch Obituary

James Quinn Lynch

James Quinn Lynch, 81, of Linden, Michigan, and formerly of Fostoria, died Thursday, Oct. 12, 2023, at Mission Point Rehab and Nursing Home in Holly, Michigan.

He was born Jan. 25, 1942, in Kenton, to Thurman and Helen (Quinn) Lynch. He married Judy Coppus on June 12, 1965, and she survives.

Jim graduated from St. Wendelin High School, Fostoria, in 1960. He attended two years at University of Detroit in Electrical Engineering, three years at The Ohio State University with a B.S. Degree in Education, and Oakland University in Rochester, Michigan, for a Masters Program in Guidance and Counseling. He entered U.S. Army through the ROTC program in 1965 and served to 1971, rising to the rank of Captain. He served in Vietnam in 1967-1968 as Military Advisor to the South Vietnamese Army. He was awarded a Purple Heart and Bronze Star. He was the Battery Commander at the Nike Missile Site at Fort Tilden, New York.

Jim was a teacher at Atherton Community Schools in Burton, Michigan, where he taught math and science and was a Student Council advisor. He was a member of St. John's Catholic Church in Fenton, Michigan.

After retirement, Jim loved working at the Disney store for nine years. He was an avid Ohio State alumni and football fan where he attended all of the home games and many away games and never left early. He and Judy loved concerts and live theater productions. He loved the lake and water skiing and collecting everything Disney as well as Hummel figures. He loved his beagle dogs, Freckles and Daisy.

Along with his wife, he is survived by his sister-in-law, Sally Coppus; cousins, Mary (Ray) Barrett, and Shannon and Rick Quinn; special cousins, Holly Burrus, Robin (Dave) Lucius, Elisabeth Null, Kristen (Dan) Anderson, Brandon (Melissa) Hemminger, and Ross Hemminger; and special friends, Ilene Strausbaugh Geary, Dr. Wayne Ross, Marilyn and Bob Miller, Jim Mason, Jim Hazen, and many friends and neighbors.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and mother-in-law, Geraldine Coppus.

My condolences to you.
I really enjoyed Mr. Lynch for a science teacher. I was shy and he would look at me knowing I knew the answer but I kept quiet. He will be missed.
He called one of my sister's fender bender and when my twin sisters came along he called them big dent and little dent. Then when I came it was back to fender bender.

He was the best and favorite teacher I had. He also was the one who switched mine and my sister´s pictures on us since we are twins and watched as I opened it up and couldn´t tell that it wasn´t me. That gave my sister and I the idea to switch classes after that to see if he could tell who was who. He was a fun teacher I will always remember.

My thoughts and prayers are with you Mrs Lynch. I remember the two of you fondly. I remember going out to your house and going down to the college for your presentation. My Mom always made your Easter grass cookies we made in 2nd grade.
