Darrell J. Holman

Darrell J. Holman, 79, of Fostoria, passed away Sunday, April 28, 2024, at his home.

He was born May 17, 1944, in Fostoria to the late Elsworth John and Genevieve "Jennie" (Kimmet) Holman. He married Sharon Williams on April 24, 1965, at St. Wendelin Catholic Church, and she survives in Fostoria. Darrell and Sharon shared 59 loving years of marriage together.

Also surviving are two children, Robert Holman, Toledo and Leesa (James) Scherf, Fostoria; grandchildren, Rosalie Holman, Emmaline Holman, Kayann Scherf and Calvin Scherf; sisters, Carol (George) Miller, Kansas and Barbara (Richard) Karr, Wayne.

He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Norman and Jerome Holman.

Darrell retired from Union Carbide as a skilled tradesman after 39 years of service. He was a former resident of Risingsun, where he served as mayor, head of council, clerk/treasurer and coached their baseball and softball teams. He was a school bus driver for Lakota Schools, drove bus for Bliss Charters and drove bus for the 1996 Olympics in Atlanta, Georgia. He was an active member of St. Wendelin Catholic Church, where he served as eucharistic minister, assisted with funeral dinners, and volunteered with Pre-Cana catholic marriage preparation. Darrell had also been a member of Fostoria 4th Degree Knights of Columbus Assembly #845 and loved water sports, especially boating and fishing.

Visitation is 4-7 p.m. Thursday, May 2, 2024, at HOENING & SON FUNERAL HOME, 133 W. Tiffin St., Fostoria, Ohio 4480, where a Vigil will begin at 6:30 p.m. The Funeral Mass is 10:30 a.m. Friday, May 3, 2024, at St. Wendelin Catholic Church with the Rev. Joseph Poggemeyer presiding. Burial will follow at St. Wendelin Catholic Cemetery.
