Barbara Louise Barndt
Barbara Louise Barndt, 85, of Wayne, passed away peacefully Tuesday, Jan. 31, 2023, surrounded by her loving family at Bridge Hospice Care Center, Bowling Green.
She was born July 3, 1937, in Tipp City, to the late Lloyd R. and Emily Louise (Gaylord) Seifert Sr. Barb married Charles Henry Barndt on Aug. 15, 1959, in Springfield, Ohio.
Barb is survived by her loving husband of 63 years, Charlie; children, Doug (Lisa) Barndt and Dave (Leslie) Barndt, both of Wayne, and Dianne (Mark Barbour) Barndt of Bowling Green; grandchildren, Brian (Jessica) Barndt, Dannielle (Kirk) Sidle, Mackenzie Cherry, Justin (Kathryn) Barndt, Amanda Barndt, Madeline Cherry, Taylor (Bryan) Melcher, Ellyse Cherry, and Isaac Cherry; and great-grandchildren, Taylor and Chance Sidle.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Lloyd and Emily; and brother, Lloyd R. Seifert Jr.
Barb graduated as Valedictorian in her class from Sidney High School in 1955 and then earned a Bachelor's Degree of Fine Arts in Speech and Hearing Therapy at Ohio University where she graduated Summa Cum Laude in 1959. While at Ohio University, Barb was a member of Sigma Kappa National Sorority and met her future husband, Charlie, who worked in the sorority house. She taught Speech and Hearing Therapy at Bedford Schools in Cleveland for one year before moving to Wayne in 1961. After moving to Wayne, Barb received her funeral director's license June 13, 1966, and worked alongside her husband as owners of Barndt Funeral Home for over 30 years.
In 1961, Barb became an active member of Wayne United Methodist Church where she served as a former Pastor Parish Chairman, Memorial Chairman, and taught bible school for many years. She was very active in Cub Scouts, Brownies, and Girl Scouts as den mother and leader, receiving district representative from 1976-1980. Barb was also a member of the former Mother's Club, Research Club for 45 years, Bridge Club, Red Hat Society of Wayne, former Vice President of Wayne PTO, volunteered at pledge drives for WBGU TV, and was a member of Wood County Hospital Guild where she volunteered in the gift shop for many years. Among other hobbies, she was an avid reader and her greatest love in life was spending time with her family.
Barb's family would like to give a heartfelt thank you to family friend Connie Mitchem, home health nurse, Jennifer Gregg, and the nurses and doctors at Bridge Hospice in Bowling Green for giving Barb the excellent care she received.
Visitation will be 1-2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 11, 2023, at Barndt Funeral Home, Wayne. Barb's celebration of life will be 2 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home with Pastor Tamara Bennett and Pastor Vernagaye Sullivan officiating. Burial will be at Graham Cemetery.
