Z. Eickhoff Obituary

Z. Mae Eickhoff

Z. Mae Eickhoff, 95, of Fostoria, passed away Monday morning, Jan. 2, 2023, at her home.

She was born July 25, 1927, in Delphos, to the late Henry Ray and Odessa (Kennedy) Hunt. She married Raymond F. "Ray" Eickhoff on Feb. 1, 1953, in Oakwood, Ohio, and he preceded her in death June 28, 2012.

Mae is survived by four children, Phyllis Eickhoff of Michigan, Thomas (Cyndi) Eickhoff of Urbana, Paul "Ferd" Eickhoff of Fostoria, and Janet (Kenneth Jr.) Solo of Toledo; nine grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; brothers, Howard Hunt and Kenneth Hunt; and sisters, Barbara (Robert) Laukhuf and Donna (Francis) Grant.

She was also preceded in death by her siblings, Alice Gee, Charles Hunt, George Hunt, and two infant brothers.

Mae was a homemaker, farmer, and member of Hope Lutheran Church, Fostoria, where she was an active member in the sewing group, assisting with the baby care kits for Lutheran World Relief. She started her sewing vocation in Ligonier, Indiana, and later came to Oakwood, working for Toledo Tent Company making duffel bags for World War II. After she and her husband, Ray, retired from farming, they began a second career as custodians at Hope Lutheran for 23 years. Mae loved her family and took pride in her organic garden, where she regularly canned and froze fruits and vegetables.

Mae's funeral will be 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 7, 2023, at Hope Lutheran Church, Fostoria, with the Rev. Robin Kapostasy presiding. Burial will follow at Zion Lutheran Cemetery in Jackson, Twp.

Visitation will be 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Friday, Jan. 6, 2023, at Hoening & Son Funeral Home, 133 W. Tiffin St., Fostoria, Ohio, 44830, and 10-11 a.m. Saturday at the church.
