William Derck Obituary

William J. "Bill" Derck

William J. "Bill" Derck, 68, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family and friends Wednesday, July 17, 2024, at The Willows at Bowling Green, after a long, courageous battle with Parkinson's disease.

Bill was born April 9, 1956, in Fostoria, where he lived his entire life and truly loved his hometown. He graduated from St. Wendelin High School in 1974. His early life was filled with adventure as he had a pilot's license and was able to visit 49 out of the 50 U.S. states. He was an avid and remarkable golfer, opting not to go pro as a young man and still maintained a handicap of 6, easily being able to beat most of his competitors even as his health was declining.

He made a life for himself as a Tool & Die maker, owning Fostoria Machine Products. For over 30 years, he was regarded as a skilled tradesman and savvy businessman. Bill was well known for his incredibly sharp wit, unmatched sense of humor, and his ability to make friends. Everywhere Bill went, someone knew him. He never knew a stranger. For those that had the pleasure of knowing him, he will be difficult to forget.

Bill's biggest treasure in life was his family. He leaves behind four children, Cathy (Ryan) Kruger of Akron, Drs. Cara (Joshua) Derck-Shuh of Bowling Green, Caitlyn Johnson of Fostoria, and Andrew Derck of Findlay; eight grandchildren, Xavier, Izzabella, Kelan, Chandlar, Tressel, Jamison, Jett, and Lynn; and four siblings, John (Janet) Derck, Lynn Derck, Dr. James (Pat) Derck, and Robert (Julie) Derck.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Floyd "Bud" and Carolyn (Peggs) Derck; and grandson, Giovanni James-Marciano Johnson.

Visitation will be 2-5 p.m. Sunday, July 21, 2024, and 10 a.m. Monday, July 22, 2024, until the time of Bill's service at 11 a.m., all at HOENING & SON FUNERAL HOME, 133 W. Tiffin St., Fostoria, Ohio, 44830. Bill's family would like to encourage everyone to wear Ohio State, Cleveland Browns, or Cleveland Guardians gear to the services to honor his undying love of his favorite teams. If you have a story to share about Bill, his family would appreciate hearing your memories of him.

Memorial contributions are suggested to Michael J. Fox Foundation or St Jude.
