Walter Joseph Criss

Walter Joseph Criss, 81, of Fostoria, passed away Friday, Oct. 20, 2023, surrounded by his loving wife and family.

He was born Nov. 20, 1941, in Fostoria, to Carroll A. and Shirley Maxine (Eblen) Criss. He married Cynthia "Cindy" Jeanne Renninger on Sept. 5, 1964, at the Methodist Chapel in Fostoria and she survives in Fostoria.

Walter is also survived by two children, Corrina J. (Al) Criss-Rossmeisl of Salem, Oregon, and Joseph C. (the late Traci) Criss of Fostoria; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; sister, Carolyn (Bill) King of Fostoria; and little lap dog, Cody Bear.

He was also preceded in death by his parents; two daughters, Carrie Jo (the late Tim) Bugner and Little Cindi J. Criss; brother, Eldon D. (Elizabeth) Criss; and sister, Eileen K. (Max) Hutton.

Walter retired from Union Carbide in Fostoria after 40 years of service and was a member of Living Hope Church in Findlay. He loved going to church and his faith was very important to him. Walter cherished his very "happy, happy" 59 years of marriage with his wife, Cindy. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, and collecting coins and glass, and was a curator at Fostoria Glass Heritage Museum for many years. Walter never met a stranger and could talk with anyone - which he usually did.

Visitation will be 1-3 and 5-7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 24, 2023, at HOENING & SON FUNERAL HOME, 133 W. Tiffin St., Fostoria, Ohio, 44830. Walter's funeral will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 25, 2023, at the funeral home with Pastor Daniel Roush presiding. A funeral luncheon will follow at the funeral home. Burial will be at a later date at Fountain Cemetery.

Memorial contributions are suggested to either Fostoria Glass Heritage Museum or Caring Hands Pregnancy Center, Fostoria, in care of the funeral home.
