Virgil Ray Ireland Jr.

Virgil Ray Ireland Jr., 73, of Fostoria, passed away at 3:05 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 9, 2024, at ProMedica Toledo Hospital.

He was born Feb. 3, 1951, in Findlay to the late Virgil Ray and Lula Mae (Ewers) Ireland Sr. He married Eloise Cruz on Feb. 14, 1992, in North Baltimore, and she survives in Fostoria.

Also surviving is a daughter, Melinda (J.R.) Thomas, Toledo; son, Joshua Ray Ireland, North Baltimore; three grandchildren, Austin and Jordan Craddolph and Alycia Yoder; two great-grandchildren, Cason Lee and Ensley Eve Craddolph; sister, LuAnn Muzy, Findlay; and brother, Roth (Theresa) Ireland, Napoleon. He was also preceded in death by a son, Ricky Lugo (2013).

Ray retired from the former Indalex, Fostoria. He was a member and deacon of Wood County Baptist Church, Bowling Green. He was a United States Navy veteran who served as a radio operator from 1970 to 1976 and was a member of the former Fostoria VFW.

Ray was a hard worker with a laid-back personality, a go with the flow kinda guy. He enjoyed watching sports, playing billiards and cornhole, and most importantly he loved his family-especially his children.

The funeral service will be at noon Friday, November 15, 2024, at HOENING & SON FUNERAL HOME, 133 W. Tiffin St., Fostoria, OH 44830, with Pastor Steven Clagg presiding. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Burial will follow at Knollcrest Cemetery, Arcadia where military honors and committal services will take place. A luncheon will then be served in the funeral home reception area.
