Vincent Brickner Obituary

Vincent Ligouri "Vince" Brickner

Vincent Ligouri "Vince" Brickner, 91, of rural Fostoria, passed away at 11:33 a.m. Thursday, March 14, 2024, at Elmwood at The Shawhan, Tiffin, surrounded by family.

He was born Sept. 20, 1932, at home, to William and Adeline (Koerper) Brickner. He married Clara Podach on April 14, 1956, at St. Wendelin Catholic Church, and she survives in rural Fostoria.

Vince is also survived by two sons, Rick (Cindy) Brickner of rural Fostoria and Randy (Laura) Brickner of rural Tiffin; daughter-in-law, Theresa Brickner-Scherger; eight grandchildren, Cody (Kim) Brickner, Shannon (Jeremy) Jackson, Rodney (Kim Wells) Brickner, Faith (Drew) Gerke, Heath (Coral) Brickner, Lucas (Holly) Brickner, Hope (Phillip) Kimmet, and Aaron (Kelly) Brickner; 16 great-grandchildren, Oliver Brickner, Leodore Brickner, Jaxleigh Jackson, Jaelyn Jackson, Jolena Jackson, Logan Brickner, Kallen Brickner, Arlo Gerke, Crosby Gerke, Nora Brickner, Cade Brickner, Declan Brickner, Quinn Brickner, Clara Brickner, Adeline Brickner, and Eliza Brickner; brother, Roger (Midge) Brickner; and in-laws, Carl Podach, Mary Ellen Kessler, and Jean Ann Brickner.

He was preceded in death by a son, Robin Brickner in 1989; parents; siblings, Norbert (Mary) Brickner, Kenneth (Marilyn) Brickner, Margaret (Herman) Smith, and Imelda (Gerald) Scherger; and in-laws, Florian (Louise) Podach, Clarence (Shirley) Podach, Marilyn Podach, Charles Kessler, and Wayne Brickner.

Vince graduated from Jackson Liberty High School in 1952. He worked at Whirlpool in Clyde for five years and then Bascom Elevator for 38 years. He was a member of All Saints Parish, New Riegel (previously St Andrew's Liberty), and was a 60-year member of the choir.

He enjoyed Sunday night cards with friends, family, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, and hosting parties at their family pond where he could fish and visit with friends. The grandkids and great-grandchildren all have fond memories of the story that grandpa used to tell them when they would ask him to tell a story. It went like this "One dark and stormy night, three robbers were sitting on a log and one said Jack tell me a story and so Jack began… One dark and stormy night three robbers were sitting on a log and one said Jack tell me a story" and on and on it went as the kids yelled "not that story grandpa" and grandpa laughed.

Funeral Mass will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, March 18, 2024, at All Saints Parish with the Rev. Gary Walters officiating. A Rosary will be prayed 30 minutes prior to Mass. Burial will follow at St. Andrew Catholic Cemetery, Liberty Township.

Visitation for friends and family to share stories will be 1-6 p.m. Sunday, March 17, 2024, at Hoffmann-Gottfried-Mack Funeral Home & Crematory, 236 S. Washington St., Tiffin, Ohio, 44883, (419) 447-2424.

Clara and the Brickner family, May God's peace be with you in this difficult time. Vincent always brought a smile to my face when he was in our insurance office. The story in his tribute depicts his sense of humor and playful orneriness. He will be missed.
