Heather Barnett Adams, 54, passed away Friday, July 12, 2024, due to a sepsis bacteria infection in the blood causing pulmonary heart, lungs, and multi-organs shut down.
Heather's life was a testament to love, resilience, and unwavering faith in God.
Heather attended South Central School in Greenwich and was thrilled to be riding her mascot Arabian horse at the football games. She attended EHOVE Class of 1998 and then Bowling Green State University - Firelands.
As a child, Heather enjoyed roller skating, ice skating, sledding, and riding her horses. Heather showed Western and English Halter, Pleasure, Horsemanship, Showmanship, and Trail. Proudly, Heather took 4-H 1st place trophy at the Huron County Fair. Heather showed elsewhere in horse shows besides 4-H, collecting ribbons and trophies.
Heather and her husband Nick were married Oct. 15, 2005, at Trinity Temple Church in Milan.
Heather and Nick moved from this area in 2010. Heather and Nick purchased a 17-acre place with a two-story log cabin home with two-tier porch in the woods and a pond. On the property, they filled it with chicks, chickens, cats, dogs, ducks, goats, donkeys, and a mule. Heather's favorite animals were 8 Racking Tennessee Walker horses. Heather enjoyed going to rodeos, especially to watch bull riding.
Heather and Nick together enjoyed fishing, both were American Legion Riders, Nick on his Harley and Heather on her Can-Am with eyelashes. In 2023, they took the challenge and rode the Tail of the Dragon which is 319 curves in 11 miles starting in Robbinsville, North Carolina and ending at Tabcat Creek Bridge in Tennessee. Heather and Nick showed and bred AKC and NKC dogs under their kennel name, Von Smada Kennels. Together, they enjoyed horseback riding, camping, swimming, and working for St. Jude. They both worked hard to make Back Country Horesemen Association of America at Fort McClellan, renaming it Camp McClellan Horse Trails (as seen on the History Channel's 'Seeing America on Horseback') in Anniston, Alabama. Heather and Nick's names are etched on the back of the arched sign as you drive in. Heather was the camp host at the warden station. Heather truly loved all holiday decorating - lights and all at their campsite there. Heather wore holiday attire herself and so did her horses in the parades.
Heather and Nick both belonged to the Randolph County Trail Riders, where Heather was also in the administration.
Heather started "Stilettos on Steel," an all-female motorcycle riding group, Heflin, Alabama, chapter.
Heather was a Piqua Shawnee Heron Clan Mother. She would go to tribe meetings in Kentucky. Heather and Nick were featured on horseback in Wedowee, Alabama for a movie being filmed "On Places Thin" revolving around Native Americans. Heather was also on scene dancing.
Just this year, Heather started mountain hiking in Alabama.
In 2011, Heather was diagnosed with stage 4 breast cancer. Her mother started asking questions over the phone. Heather calmly said "Let's talk about something we both like to talk about. I've turned it over to the Lord." And that was that.
Heather was a cherished wife, daughter, daughter-in-law, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend.
Heather is survived by her husband, Nick Adams of Heflin, Alabama; mother, Carol (Denny) Conry of Norwalk; father-in-law, Ed Adams of Sheffield Village; three sons, Charles O'Neal (Meghan) Johnson of Heflin, Alabama, Wesley (Crystal) Johnson of Dallas, Georgia, and Andrew Adams of Clyde; grandchildren, Jessie, Maddy, Bryce, Blake, Paisley, Liliana, Riley, and Jackson; and brother, Kyle Fearing of Crossville, Tennessee.
