Steven W. Hastings

Steven W. Hastings, 75, of Fostoria, passed away Sunday, April 16, 2023, at his home surrounded by his family.

He was born June 25, 1947, in Bryan, to Iris "Jean" (Lombard) Hastings of Florida, and the late Wade Hastings.

Steve graduated from Fostoria High School in 1965 and attended Bowling Green State University for one year before joining U.S. Navy. After serving proudly for four years, he returned home to marry the love of his life, Margaret Benner, on June 26, 1971, at St. Mary's Catholic Church. She survives in Fostoria.

Steven is also survived by a son, Gregory (Kate) Hastings of Columbus; daughter, Laura (Eric) White of Magnolia; five grandchildren, Ella White (deceased), Ava White (deceased), Colin Hastings of Columbus, and Elaina White and Lincoln White, both of Magnolia; brother, Dr. Stan (Jan) Hastings of Florence, Kentucky; and sister, Shirley (Roger) Williams of Wewahitchka, Florida.

Steve worked as a machine repairman at Atlas Crankshaft of Fostoria for 30 years before he retired. He also shared his talents by working with Cub Scouts Pack 450 for five years as a den leader. He dearly loved his family and cherished spending time with them, especially with his grandchildren. His hobbies were fishing, wood working, playing cards, camping, and traveling.

Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Friday, April 21, 2023, and 10-11 a.m. Saturday, April 22, 2023. Steven's funeral will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Hoening & Son Funeral Home, 133 W. Tiffin St., Fostoria, Ohio, 44830. Deacon Dave Schiefer will officiate. Burial will be immediately following at St. Wendelin Cemetery with United Veterans of Fostoria Honor Guard providing military honors. A luncheon will then take place at the funeral home reception area.

Memorials are suggested to St. Wendelin Catholic Church or ProMedica Hospice in care of the funeral home.
