Russell E. Sours
Russell E. Sours, 97, passed away peacefully Saturday, Aug. 6, 2022, surrounded by his loving family at The Willows at Tiffin.
He was born Sept. 22, 1924, in Tiffin, to the late Alva and Muriel (Rhoad) Sours. Russell married Jeanette F. Sherrard on March 28, 1948, in Helena, and she preceded him in passing Nov. 3, 2017.
Russell's survivors include his son, Chris (Irene) Sours of New Riegel; three daughters, Phyllis (Jerry) Burks of Rossford, Pamela (Steven) Eyer of Howard, and Jennie Birch of Bettsville; 11 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.
He was also preceded in death by his parents, Alva and Muriel; twin brothers, Olen and Orton; brother, Calvin; and three sisters, Margaret Sours, Ruth Hower, and Bernice Willman.
Russell was a 1943 graduate of Amsden High School and then served his country proudly in U.S. Army during World War II. He had a life-long passion for farming and also worked as a plumber and school bus driver. Russell was a member of Albert Bowe American Legion Post #338 in Bradner, member of VFW in Fostoria, member of High Street United Methodist Church in Fostoria, served on Farm Council for many years, and board member at Elevator Sun Grain in Risingsun. He was also a member of S.C.R.A.P. (Sandusky County Restorers of Antique Power) for many years, becoming the first member to receive life-time membership.
Russell's family would like to send a heartfelt thank you to all the nurses and staff at The Willows at Tiffin and Heartland Hospice for the wonderful care Russell was given.
Russell's celebration of life service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 9, 2022, at High Street United Methodist Church, Fostoria, with Pastor Jim Sharrett officiating. Burial will be at Scott Trinity Cemetery near Risingsun with military honors performed by Albert Bowe American Legion Post #338. Russell's family would like to invite any S.C.R.A.P. member to bring their John Deere Tractor to Risingsun Dollar General Tuesday by 11:45 a.m. to participate in the procession to the cemetery as a tribute to Russell. Immediately following the cemetery services, a bereavement luncheon will take place at High Street United Methodist Church in Fostoria.
Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Monday, Aug. 8, 2022, at Barndt Funeral Home, Wayne, and 10-11 a.m. Tuesday at the church.
