Richard Waldron Obituary

Richard Lee "Rich" Waldron

Richard Waldron, 83, of Fostoria, passed away unexpectedly Tuesday, August 13, 2024. He was born July 31, 1941, in Risingsun to Melvin L. and Elsie (McEntire)Waldron. He married Mary (Thompson) in 1966 in Fostoria, and she preceded him in death.

He is survived by a son, Jeffery Waldron of Findlay; brother, David (Joyce) Waldron of Berwick; sisters, Jeanie (Dan) Vitt and Diana (Dennis) McDonald, both of Fostoria.

In addition to his parents and wife, Rich was preceded in death by his infant brother, William Edward ("Billy") Waldron; paternal grandparents, Clarence and Eva Waldron; maternal grandparents, William and Ella McEntire; as well as many beloved aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Barely out of high school, Rich enlisted and proudly served in the US Air Force from 1959-1963. After training in the States, his overseas duty was as an Airstrip Firefighter based at (then known as) Nouasseur Air Base, near Casablanca in North Africa.

Rich returned and settled into a job at Atlas Corp, from which he would later retire. During his years at Atlas, he was fortunate to have many relatives as co-workers. He counted himself very lucky to work with his younger brother for all those years.

Richard was a lifelong learner. As such, his interests were many and varied and made for lots of good late-night stories when the campfire was warm and the beers were cold! Over the years, he enjoyed camping and boating with family and friends, golf, bowling, fishing, and a bit of hunting, and traveling the US with family and good friends. He was a life member of the Sportsman's Club and an active member of AMVETS Post No.69, where he served as past commander, American Legion Post No.73, and Moose in Fostoria.

As generous as Rich was in life, so he was in passing. As per his wishes, his body was donated to The University of Toledo College of Medicine. His hope was to contribute to finding a cure for diabetes.

Celebration of Rich's life will be from 10-11:30 a.m. Saturday, April 5, 2025, at Veterans' Chapel at Fountain Cemetery, 702 Van Buren St., Fostoria. Please join his family and friends in sharing memories of our time with him. Military honors will be presented by United Veterans of Fostoria Honor Guard. Private interment will be at a later date. A light lunch will be provided from noon-3 p.m. at Fostoria United Sportsmen, 1324 Springville Ave, Fostoria.
