Dick was born in Auburn, Indiana, the oldest child of Wilbur and Cleo Johnson. He was enrolled at Tri-State College (now Trine University) and was a member of Alpha Sigma Phi fraternity. Dick graduated in 1967 with a bachelors in Business Administration.

After being drafted, Dick trained as a combat medic at Fort Sam Houston, Texas. Dick then later served in Berlin, Germany. He was awarded National Defense Service Medal, Expert (Rifle) Medal, Good Conduct Medal, and Army of Occupation Medal (Berlin).

He married Sharron Peachey on Aug. 17, 1968, in Kendallville, Indiana. They had two sons, Brandon and Trenton.

Upon retirement, Dick and Sharron moved to Williamsburg, Virginia. Dick was an active member of the community including volunteering at Kingsmill LPGA Championship, member of Fords Colony Auto Enthusiasts (awarded the Big Wheel Award 2018), and St. Bede Catholic Church.

He is survived by his wife, Sharron; sons, Brandon Johnson (Cary) of Marion and Trenton Johnson (Lanée) of Portsmouth, New Hampshire; grandchildren, Kyrie, Tate, and Tahlia; and brother, Steve Johnson (Ruth Ann) of Edgerton.

Dick was preceded in death by his parents, Wilbur and Cleo; sister, Melanie Rosetti; and daughter-in-law, Yvette Johnson.
