Rafael Tolento Obituary
Rafael J. Tolento, Jr., 95, a long-time resident of Fostoria, passed away on Wednesday, March 19, 2025, at Hurley Medical Center in Flint, Michigan.
He was born on August 6, 1929, in Lorain, to the late Rafael J. and Olivia (Rubio) Tolento, Sr. He married Graciela "Gracie" Reyna Tolento on July 23, 1960, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Fremont, and after many years of love and devotion, she preceded him in death on August 30, 2021.
Surviving are six children, Lawrence Tolento, Fostoria, Martha (Dale) Mansour, Michigan, Gloria Hoover, Fostoria, Ruben Tolento, Fostoria, John (Amy) Tolento, Fostoria, and Charles Tolento, Texas; eleven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; siblings, Alfred (Delores) Tolento, Florida and Sr. Sarah Tolento, Missouri.
He was also preceded in death by siblings, Ernest, Ferdinand, Anna, Robert, Salvador, Arthur, and baby sister, Delores.
Rafael retired as a lathe operator at Brush Wellman in Elmore (now Materion) and was a member of St. Wendelin Catholic Church in Fostoria, and Church of the Holy Family in Grand Blanc, Michigan. He was a United States Army veteran, serving from 1951-1953 in a peacekeeping mission in Germany following World War II. He enjoyed gardening, barbequing, and listening to Mexican music. He will lovingly be remembered as the founder of "Tolento Engineering", where no item cannot be made or made better by him.
The Funeral Mass is 11 a.m. Saturday, March 22, 2025, at St. Mary Catholic Church in Millersville, with Monsignor Walter "Tad" Oxley, presiding. Public visitation is an hour prior to the Mass from 10-11 a.m. in the church. Burial will follow at St. Mary Catholic Cemetery in Millersville where United Veterans of Fostoria Honor Guard will conduct military honors.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to Church of the Holy Family (memo line: Outreach Building Fund) 11804 S. Saginaw Street, Grand Blanc, Michigan 48439.
