Paul E. Roth
Paul E. Roth was born Flag Day, June 14, 1935, to Amelia (Brown) and Clement Roth in Thompson Twp., Seneca County. Paul, surrounded by family, was peacefully called home on February 26, 2026, to help with heavenly projects.
As an infant, Amelia passed, and Paul was blessed to be raised by Agnes (Brown) and Walter Dick. Belonging to Clyde St. Mary's, he could be found serving Mass, helping mom Aggie at church, and dad Walter doing cemetery lawn work and digging graves. As an exceptional high school athlete, he was a member of the State championship track team and a varsity baseball catcher. After graduating in 1954, he worked with several local contractors building homes. On a whim, he went with a neighbor and enrolled in Toledo Barber College. He cut hair for four generations while practicing carpentry for over 50 years. He became known to many as "Paul the Barber" or "Clipper." December 1, 1956, he married Carolyn (Thompson) of Bellevue. He, along with family and friends, built the "Roth Ranch" in Bellevue, where they raised Paula (Roth) Downie, Cindy (Jim) DePolo, Steve (Robin) Roth, and Mark (Julie) Roth.
He was a six-year member of the Army National Guard/Reserve. As a Bellevue community member, he belonged to Immaculate Conception Parish, Knights of Columbus, Chamber of Commerce, Fraternal Order of Eagles (Golden Eagle), and Eagle Anglers (one of the founding fathers of the annual Kids' Fishing Rodeo). Also, a member of the Agricultural Heritage of Huron County demonstrating and exhibiting wood carving in the Heritage barn. For many decades, he spent at the Wood Carver's Den creating award-winning carvings, and until recently, he taught fellow carvers. He was a noted collector of treasures, sharing his findings with his loved ones. He enjoyed sponsoring and playing on his own men's softball team, restoring a Lyman boat, fishing trips, flying kites, building a tractor and watching grandchildren's activities. You never knew what you would find in his hands: tools, sports equipment or a grandchild's hand.
Survived by his children; grandchildren, Cassie (Adam) Saunders, Thomas Downie, Matt (Melinda) DePolo, Lauren (Derek) Burkhart, Shawna (Dan) Wadden, Natasha (Bo) Shaw, and Savanna (Mike) Gedridge.
