Norman Lowell Covert

Norman Lowell Covert, 96, of Tiffin, passed away Tuesday, Aug. 13, 2024, at Bridge Hospice Care Center in Bowling Green.

He was born Aug. 25, 1927, in Bascom, to Curtis C. and Mary Marie (Forwalter) Covert. He married Jean Louise (Swick) on Aug. 15, 1948, in Convoy, and survives.

Norman's other survivors include his children, Diane (Rod) Gerstenberger, Beth (Larry) Covert, Stephen Covert, Elaine Covert, (Stacie Oyster, Tony Gerstenberger, Erin Wilkins, Adam Wilkins, Mallory Covert, Seth Covert, Ben Wurzel, Matt Wurzel); grandchildren and (Jacob Oyster, Caleb Oyster, Callie Oyster, Luke Oyster, Carter Gerstenberger, Elise Gerstenberger, Elliot Covert); great-grandchildren, (Caden Oyster) great-great-grandchild.

Norman worked as a Meter Installer for Ohio Power (AEP). He was a member of First Lutheran Church and served as a Merchant Sailor and in U.S. Army after World War II.

Norman was involved with church dartball, church council, and was an usher. Norman was the treasurer for the BSA Troop 401, electrician union steward, avid photographer, skier, golfer, pool player, gardener, and sailor, and he loved to canoe. He was a traveler with an unquenchable wanderlust that he fulfilled with his bride, Jean. Norman loved to ride his John Deere and could fix any mechanical equipment and loved to tinker with new technology. He enjoyed telling stories and had an infectious laugh that everyone loved. Norman was a graduate of Hopewell-Loudon High School.

Norman was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Clarence Covert, Robert Browning, and Paul Covert; and sister, Nancy Covert.

Norman's celebration of life will be at First Lutheran Church at a later date.

Engle-Shook Funeral Home & Crematory, Tiffin, is assisting family with arrangements.
