Mickey A. Cunningham

Mickey A. Cunningham, 77, of Risingsun, passed away peacefully Friday, January 2, 2026, at The Manor at Greendale in Findlay. His fight against dementia has been observed over the past few years; may he rest in peace and continue to watch over his family. Mickey was born August 3, 1948, in Fostoria, to the late Edwin D. "Bud" and Mary M. (Moor) Cunningham. He married Sonja L. Bankey in Bradner, June 15, 1973, at Mickey's family home.

Surviving Mickey are his loving wife of 52 years, Sonja; son, Matt (Ellen) Cunningham of Risingsun; brothers, Chris (Joan) Cunningham of Owasso, Oklahoma, John Cunningham and David Cunningham, both of Bradner; nephew, Aaron (Amber) Cunningham; and great-nephews, Avery and Asher.

Mickey was a 1966 graduate of Lakota High School and then proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War, where he was a highly skilled Vietnamese translator. He was a very proud, but modest, United States veteran, and was fortunate enough to experience an Honor Flight to Washington, D.C. with his son, Matt. Mickey was a wonderful father, with a fantastic sense of humor, and a dedicated and loving husband. He spent 43 years at Mennel Milling in Fostoria and loved retirement. His knowledge of just about anything came from his love of reading, and he was an avid Jeopardy watcher. Mickey had a passion for animals, with a special love for dogs.

Friends will be received for a memorial visitation from 10-11 a.m. Saturday, January 10, 2026, at Wayne Church of Christ, where a Celebration of Life Memorial Service will begin at 11 a.m. A bereavement luncheon will follow at the church. All arrangements have been entrusted to Barndt Funeral Home in Wayne.

Memorial donations may be sent to Alzheimer's Association Northwest Ohio Chapter or Wood County Humane Society.
