Max Rader Obituary

Max Reed Rader

Max Reed Rader, 99, of rural Fostoria, passed away peacefully Saturday, Feb. 25, 2023, at Good Shepherd Home, Fostoria.

He was born March 28, 1923, in Putnam County, to the late Clarence and Dora (Winkle) Rader. He married Patricia (Pat) Huffman on June 20, 1948, and she preceded him in death July 28, 2014.

Max is survived by three children, Ann (Robert) Beckman, Martha (Roger) Smith, and Rex (Shirley) Rader; five grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and two stepgreat-great-grandchildren.

He was also preceded in death by a son, Alan Rader; three brothers, Don, Raymond, and John; and four sisters, Eileen (Cecil) Wooten, Helen (Robert) Haney, Doris (Harold) Barlekamp, and Mary Rader.

Max was a World War II veteran. He worked many jobs throughout his life, retiring from Fostoria Distribution Services. He realized his dream when he purchased a farm in 1970 where he farmed and milked cows. He lived on his farm until mid-Feb., 2023.

The Hancock County Fair was always on his agenda every year. He enjoyed watching his children and grandchildren show cattle at the fair. Later years, he also enjoyed watching his great-grandchildren show cattle at Seneca County Fair.

Max and Pat spent many winters after his retirement at Little Willies RV Campground near Arcadia, Florida. During the summers, they enjoyed traveling to various places to camp with family and friends. Max and Pat enjoyed their Sheltie dogs who traveled with them and were a great comfort to them both.

Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 28, 2023, and 10-11 a.m. Wednesday, March 1, 2023, at COLDREN-CRATES FUNERAL HOME, 205 West Sandusky Street, Findlay. Max's funeral will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Knollcrest Cemetery, where full military rites will be conducted by Hancock County Veterans Memorial Squad.

Memorials may be given to Bridge Hospice Care Center, Findlay.

I met Max through his sister, Doris about ten years ago. He was such a sweet guy. He and "Dodie " had a wonderful relationship. I was able to see him at their family get togethers and he always took time to talk with me. The family had such closeness and love! It was a beautiful relationship. I am happy that I was able to be a part of it at times!
