FUNERAL HOME

Dorothy Coleman Obituary

Dorothy Coleman, beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, passed away, peacefully, on June 30, 2024, at the age of 92.

She was born on January 12, 1932, in Utica, NY, the only child of Grace Schott-Hall. Dorothy attended Remsen High School and later married George T. Coleman on August 2, 1955, in Floyd, NY. Together, they cherished their daughter, Cynthia Coleman, born on April 23, 1956. Dorothy dedicated 45 years of her life as a seamstress and material handler at the Central Association for the Blind and Visually Impaired in Utica.

She and George shared a deep bond, enjoying hobbies such as communicating on CB radios; George's handle was "Buzzie", while Dorothy's was "Perky." Their marriage of 49 years was a testament to their love until George's passing on July 19, 2004.

Dorothy had a passion for card games like Pitch, Pinochle and Pyramid Solitaire and she looked forward to her favorite meal, a fish fry, every Friday. She was active in bowling leagues, a regular at bingo games, but her greatest joy was spending time with her grandchildren. Dorothy never missed the nightly news or her favorite game show, Wheel of Fortune, showcasing her love for games and puzzles.

Known for her infectious smile and kind words, Dorothy touched the lives of everyone she met. She leaves behind a legacy of love and warmth, survived by her daughter, Cynthia McGinnis; grandsons, Christopher Coleman and Mark Coleman; granddaughters, Kimberly Monroe and Rosemarie Purdy; and her great-grandchildren, Andrea, Dillon, Andrew, Shelby, Aneverette, Jasanna and soon-to-arrive, Izaiah.

Dorothy Coleman will be dearly missed and remembered fondly by all who knew her. May she rest in eternal peace.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Wednesday at Prince-Boyd & Hyatt Home for Funerals, Inc., 210 W. Court St., Rome. Interment will be in Floyd Cemetery. Relatives and friends may call at the Home for Funerals on Wednesday from 12 to 2 p.m.

Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice and Palliative Care or a charity of one's choice.
