Marie Gabel Obituary
Marie "Therese" Gabel, 91, of Fremont, passed away Thursday, Nov. 30, 2023, at Elmwood Assisted Living.
She was born Aug. 17, 1932, in Tiffin, to William S. and Helen R. (Gase) Wagner.
Marie married Norman J. Gabel on April 23, 1955, and shared over 55 years together before his passing in 2010.
Therese graduated from Tiffin Calvert and obtained a degree in Nursing from Mercy College. She worked as Director of Nursing at St. Bernadine Home.
Her family will fondly remember her as a wonderful mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Therese was a fantastic bridge player and an even better pianist. She was a member of Terra Choral Society, St. Joseph Church and Funeral Choirs, was a Camp Fire Leader, volunteered with Red Cross, and worked in the gift shop of Memorial Hospital. Therese was a faithful member of St. Joseph Catholic Church.
Left to cherish her memory are her children, Deborah (Steve) Billow, Michael (Elizabeth) Gabel, and Robert (Kimberly) Gabel, all of Fremont, and Mark (Diane) Gabel of Columbus; grandchildren, Jenny Moyer, Brad Gabel, Carrie Rumsey, Erin Shannon, Zachary Gabel, Stacy West, Stephanie Billow, Sam Gabel, and Alex Gabel; great-grandchildren, Derek, Grady, Carter, Mason, Maddie, Griffin, Audrey, Lily, Claire, Jack, Noah, and Olivia; and brother, Michael Wagner of Tiffin.
She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Helen; husband, Norman; daughter, Mary E. Gabel; and brother, William H. Wagner.
Therese's family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Elmwood Assisted Living and Heartland Hospice for their respect and care.
Visitation will be 8:30 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 9, 2023, until the time of Mass at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Fremont. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery.
Donations in Therese's name may be made to St. Joseph Catholic Church to go towards a sidewalk awning or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
