Marcia Kozubek Obituary

Marcia Josephine Kozubek

Marcia Josephine (Mumper) Kozubek, a beloved mother, sister, aunt, cousin, niece, and friend, passed away Sunday, April 13, 2025, leaving behind a legacy of kindness, optimism, and unwavering determination. Born July 16, 1950, in Tiffin, Marcia was the eldest of five children. She is survived by her son, James Kozubek, three siblings, and their families.

Marcia's passion for storytelling shaped her career as a journalist, working tirelessly as a newspaper reporter in upstate New York, where she made her home, covering everything from city council meetings to feature stories about artisans and even crime investigations. She kept thick binders of her published work, cherishing the people she met and the narratives she shared. Her curiosity and dedication led her to interviews with notable writers and politicians, but her favorite stories were always those that illuminated the everyday lives of people in her community.

A firm believer in the goodness of others, Marcia saw the best in everyone. She preferred face-to-face conversation over cell phones and screens. Her faith in humanity was profound. Her passion for life and her resourcefulness led her to start a successful business, learn to sail, and live for a time in her favorite place, Cape Cod, among many other things.

Marcia's kindness went above and beyond. She welcomed strangers into her home, offered care and companionship to friends in need, and volunteered tirelessly for her church and community organizations. She held positions with American Cancer Society and Reality Check program, leading anti-smoking education campaigns for teens. Her generosity knew no bounds, and her trust in people was inspiring.

She found joy in creating memorable experiences-hosting birthday parties that were more about bringing loved ones together than celebrating herself, managing an Airbnb that allowed her to meet people from all over the world and spending time with family and friends at every opportunity. She was a talented artist studying fine arts at Baldwin Wallace College during which time she had the amazing opportunity to live in Verona, Italy. Her artistry and creativity always shone through in her personal brand of sketches and doodles.

Above all, Marcia adored her son, Jim, endlessly proud of his accomplishments and the man he has become. She believed deeply in faith and destiny, confident that when she left this world, she would reunite with loved ones who had gone before her-including her parents, James Oscar Mumper and Mary Jo Boehler Mumper, her brother, James Christopher Mumper, grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins, dear friends and even her beloved Danny, the dog.

Her family takes comfort in knowing she is now embraced by those she cherished, her spirit forever woven into the hearts of the people she touched. Rest peacefully, Marcia-you are deeply missed and will always be remembered.

A committal service will be 11 a.m. Thursday, May 29, 2025, at St. Joseph Cemetery, S. Washington St., Tiffin, followed by a luncheon for family and friends at St. Joseph Catholic Church Activity Center, Upper Room, Tiffin.

My condolence to the family. I met cousin Marcia in 1988 in Carlisle, PA at a Mumper Family Reunion. We both shared an interest in genealogy and to know more of our family roots.

I met Marcia years ago and we rekindled friendship at water aerobics at the Y ! We talked about the Cape and she and her son got a place where we always stay and they loved it!
She was a bright light in an otherwise dullish world. Shine on, Marcia!

I have many good memories of playing with Marcia in the neighborhood. We played in the cabin in our backyard, Tarzan on the vines in the woods, and couldn“t figure how her mother always caught us when we climbed up the TV antenna tower to play tag on the roof. We had planned to meet last summer, but were unable to do so. Sorry we missed our chance. God bless, Marcia.

Growing up next door to the Mumper Family was a blessing. Marcia, Jeannie, and Anne Mathias were a trio for several years. I will miss knowing that Marcia is no longer here. But maybe Jeannie and Marcia can get together again now. God bless the entire Mumper family. Marylou Stone
