Lois Nan Zoll
Lois Nan Zoll, 93, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 2, 2024, at Good Shepherd Home, Fostoria, where she resided for the past four years.
Lois is survived by two daughters and two sons, Barbara Good (Jim) Pearce, Dr. Jennifer Lynn (Tom Kucera) Zoll, David Wesley (Myra) Zoll, and Philip John (Karen) Zoll; six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; 11 stepgreat-grandchildren; and sister-in-law, Marion (Lowell) Good.
She was preceded in death by her lifelong companion, David Joy "Dave" Zoll, to whom she was married over 74 years; and three sisters and four brothers, Lottie Anobel "Ann" Hansen, Lucy Eleanor Maurer, Lulu Katherine, John Cyrus Good, Darin Duane Good, Dr. Lowell Kenyon Good, and James Marion Good.
She was born April 26, 1930, in Hopewell Township, Seneca County, to John Wesley and Ida Belle (Knepper) Good at her grandparents' farmhouse along Wolf Creek. Lois had fond memories of summer on the farm. She always remembered helping with chores and farm work especially milking the Jersey cows.
Lois attended a one-room schoolhouse (Beech Grove) for four years and recalled how the older kids would help the younger ones to learn. She graduated from Hopewell Loudon in Bascom in 1947, where she was a member of the Honor Society. After graduation, Lois attended Heidelberg College in Tiffin, where she met her husband, Dave, through her brother, Lowell. Dave and Lowell were good friends. When Dave would come over to pick Lowell up, Lois would visit with Dave. That was the start of a wonderful friendship that spanned over 70 years. Lois and Dave were married Dec. 23, 1949, at Bascom United Church of Christ. Lois worked as a secretary, even doing typing at home, while her husband Dave taught music in Arlington, Delphos, and Dayton.
Lois finished her Bachelor's degree at St. Francis College in Fort Wayne, Indiana, and was a special education teacher at Mendon-Union School in Celina while living in Adams County, Indiana. After moving to Fostoria in 1973, she worked as the office manager for her brother, Dr. Lowell Good, a family doctor in Fostoria. Lois was very active in The Fostoria Presbyterian Church where she served as a deacon and elder. She was so deeply empathetic and moved by the needs of others that through the church, Lois started the "Feed My Kids" program. Feed My Kids served the Fostoria community for years in providing meals to school-aged children during the summer when their parents were working. Lois was an avid reader and always had a book. She encouraged reading with others and volunteered with Fostoria City Schools to provide tutoring in reading for several years.
Besides raising her family and, as Dave said, "taking care of me," she enjoyed playing bridge and working crossword puzzles. She was an accomplished bridge player and a sought-after partner.
Lois said "I am very proud of my family and have been very blessed through the years." Her family is very proud of the life she led, the example she set, and feel very blessed to have had her through the years.
Visitation will be 11:30 a.m. Sunday, Jan. 7, 2024, until the time of Lois' funeral at 1 p.m. at HOENING & SON FUNERAL HOME, 133 W. Tiffin St., Fostoria, Ohio, 44830. Burial will follow at Liberty Twp Cemetery, Seneca County.
