Kathleen Devine Obituary

Kathleen K. Devine

Kathleen K. Devine, 77, of Upper Sandusky and formerly of Ft. Myers, Florida, passed away Saturday, February 8, 2025, at Marion General Hospital.

Kathleen was born May 7, 1947, in Bucyrus to Clarence and Alice (Messmer) Smith, both of whom preceded her in death.

She is survived by her son, Jason (Erica) Devine of Commercial Point; and two grandchildren, Tanner and Quinn; along with her sister, Phyllis Caldwell of Upper Sandusky; and brother, Fritz (Sue) Smith of Tiffin; and many treasured nieces and nephews.

Kathleen was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Robert Allen Smith; two sisters, Mary Kear and Carol Sue Smith; and brothers-in-law, Russ Kear and Bob Caldwell.

Kathy was a 1965 graduate of Upper Sandusky High School and among her many activities, she was a spirited Upper Ram cheerleader. Following graduation, she worked as a telephone operator for the former Ohio Bell Telephone Company, was a manager at G.H.Bass Shoes in Naples, Florida, and later was a receiving manager at Walmart in Ft. Myers, Florida, retiring after 21 years, 6 months, and 9 days.

In her retirement, through her employment at Seniors Helping Seniors, Kathy became a cherished friend of Doris, the sweet lady with whom she was paired. Doris was the Co-Founder of the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation and she and Kathy spent many quality hours together, visiting, puzzling, and traveling to various appointments and activities. Kathy enjoyed hunting for shells on remote Florida beaches, taking care of her volumes of plants, and any and all shopping adventures. Quite the competitor, Kathy excelled at ever so many card and board games, most recently playing Arizona Sticks with her Florida friends. She followed all of the Ohio State Buckeye sports, many times dressing not only herself, but also her canine friends in full OSU attire. Kathy especially loved her title of "Gramma D" and she followed closely all the happenings of her family and friends.

So sorry to hear of Kathy's passing. We were friends in high school and have stayed in contact over the years. I also lived in Fort Myers and was in contact with her many times. I moved back to Findlay 1 1/2 years ago for health reasons. Hope to get to the memorial on Fed. 23rd.
