Joyce Courtney Obituary

Joyce (Fittro) Courtney

Joyce (Fittro) Courtney, passed away suddenly Wednesday, Nov. 1, 2023, in Golden, Colorado.

She was born and raised in Ohio. She graduated from Fostoria High School in June, 1957.

Joyce is survived by her son, Jeff Block (Mary); granddaughter, Hannah Block; and Jeff's father and Hannah's grandfather, Harvey Block.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Edison and Lelah Fittro; brother, John Fittro; son, Ronald Block; and husband, Harold Courtney.

From her early years in Ohio to her golden years in Colorado - along with time in Minnesota, South Dakota, California, and Florida - Joyce was an architect of lifelong friendships. Always a strong supporter for the events of her families and friends, regardless of the activity, Joyce was in attendance. That included hockey, wrestling, volleyball, soccer, dance recitals, and school award ceremonies. A fine athlete in her own right, Joyce excelled in basketball and golf growing up. She also participated in her high school marching band. Joyce was an exceptional employee with a strong work ethic, retiring twice - first from Stevinson Toyota, and second from Guest Relations with the Denver Broncos. Even after retirement, Joyce was always on the go, events for the grandkids adamantly pursuing her daily 10,000 steps, and arguably her favorite - road trips with her friends. Joyce will be forever missed by all her loving family and friends.

Celebration of life events for Joyce will take place following the new year, weather permitting.

I have many memories of visiting my Aunt Lee and Uncle Ed Fittro, and cousin Joyce with her family in Ohio. We also visited in Michigan, and Florida many times. We enjoyed several family reunions and loved to play cards together! As my parents and 4 brothers have passed, I am so sorry to hear about Joyce as well. Joyce was a strong and sensitive sweetheart. My deepest sympathies go out to Jeff and family, hugs and love, from Colorado.

Joyce lived on corner of Jackson and Walnut and I lived 3 houses down on Walnut. We had been friends all these years. We had spent many good times in Golden and in Tucson, Az, where I now reside. I miss her so very much. The angels now have Joyce wrapped in their wings.
