James Francis Spangler Sr.
James Francis Spangler Sr., 81, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family Thursday, July 10, 2025. Born June 26, 1944, to parents Russell and Emma (Sauber) Spangler in Fostoria. James married the love of his life and high school sweetheart, Carol Sue (Harris) Spangler July 3, 1962. They just celebrated 63 wonderful years of marriage.
James was a hard worker, spending 44 years working the production line for Chrysler. His work ethic and love for his family were unmatched. He found joy in life's simple pleasures, gathering around the bingo table, cheering on the Cubs and Packers with equal fervor, and spending countless hours at the bowling alley, where his competitive spirit and friendly banter made him a local favorite. Whether camping beneath the stars, fishing at dawn, or tracking through wooded trails, James was most at peace in nature's embrace.
He was also a true rider at heart, finding freedom on the open road atop his motorcycle. And when the miles wound down, he loved settling in to watch cowboy movies, especially classics featuring The Duke, John Wayne. Those films spoke to the rugged spirit James carried within him, independent, strong-willed, and loyal.
But nothing brought him greater happiness than time spent with his sons and grandchildren. He was their storyteller, their jokester, their steady rock. He leaves behind not only cherished memories but a legacy of love, resilience, and the kind of laughter that echoes long after the moment passes.
James is survived by his beloved wife, Carol; sons, James (Julie) Spangler Jr., John Spangler, Ron Spangler, and Jeffrey (Michelle) Spangler; grandchildren, Alyssa (Chris Kalscheur) Spangler, Brian (Kristina Jacobson) Spangler, Craig (Madeleine) Spangler, Dylan, Sienna, Caitlin, Collin, and Hunter Spangler; great grandchildren, Ian, Adelynn, Isaiah, Clara, Eric, and Lauralie; brother, Tim (Kellie) Spangler; nephew, Conner; and numerous other extended family members and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, and one brother.
Mass of Christian burial will take place at 11 a.m. Thursday, July 17, 2025, at ST. PATRICK CATHOLIC CHURCH, with a visitation at 10 a.m. until time of service. Burial at Mt. Olivet will immediately follow the service.
A special thank you to the nurses at Beloit Regional Hospice, especially to Lisa, Lori, and caregiver, Belen.
