James Charles Doran
James "Charles" Doran, 95, of Carey, passed away Tuesday, Aug. 13, 2024, at his residence.
He was born July 26, 1929, in Republic, to Virgie (Mason) and James Walter Doran. He married G. Jean Arnold on April 7, 1951, and she passed away Nov. 16, 1999. He then married Mary (Stuerzenberger) Schlachter on July 27, 2002, and she survives.
Charles is also survived by his children, Sandra (Dennis) Scherger of Whitehouse, Daniel (Kathy) Doran of Fostoria, Suzann (Robert) Bodart of Fostoria, and Carol (Greg) Siebenaller of Bascom; stepchildren, Sheila (Jon) Thomas of Findlay, Brad (Jacqui) Schlachter of Findlay, Brian (Rachel) Schlachter of Lexington, South Carolina, Kevin (Kendra) Schlachter of Burgoon, and Melissa (Brandon) Snyder of Tiffin; 14 grandchildren; 40 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; 10 stepgrandchildren; brother, Joseph (Carolyn) Doran of Carey; brothers-in-law, Paul (Annette) Arnold of Carey and Carl (Theresa) Arnold of Tiffin; sister-in-law, Patricia Doran of Clovis, New Mexico; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Jean; triplet sons, Anthony, James, and John Doran; brother, Richard Doran; sisters-in-law, Ruth Frisch and Dorothy Arnold; and brother-in-law, David Arnold.
Charles was a 1947 graduate of Carey High School and worked at Sieberling in Carey and later at Atlas Crankshaft in Fostoria for 30 years, retiring in 1992. Charles also farmed his 80 acres and was a beekeeper. Charles served many years on New Riegel Local School Board of Education and Poverello Credit Union Board. He was president of both boards during his tenure.
Charles had a strong faith in God. He served the former St. Nicholas Catholic Church in many facets. He was a lector, Eucharistic minister, and religious education teacher for years. He was also a Cursillista and 4th Degree Knights of Columbus member.
Mass of Christian burial will be 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 17, 2024, at Basilica of Our Lady of Consolation Parish in Carey with the Rev. Conrad Sutter OFM Conv. officiating. Interment will follow at St. Nicholas Cemetery in Frenchtown.
