Jacki Sue Prater
Jacki Sue Prater, 59, of Carey, passed away peacefully at 7:22 p.m. Friday, May 19, 2023, at her residence with family by her side.
Jacki was born April 17, 1964, in Fostoria, the daughter of David Bateson and Adeline (Gangwer) Martens. Her mother and stepfather, Robert Martens, survive in Fostoria, as well as her stepmother, Barbara Bateson.
Jacki graduated from Fostoria High School in 1982. Jacki was known for her work hard mentality, whether it was at Budd Company (15 years), Kasai (retired after 20 years), or the past year-long battle for life. She was not one to give up mainly due to her love for her family, especially her daughters. Jacki and her daughters always looked forward to spending vacations at Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, and road trips to Amish country. She enjoyed watching The Ohio State Buckeyes and collecting Precious Moments figurines.
Jacki loved to socialize and relax with her friends. She was a member of Eagles Aerie 2198 Auxiliary, where she was a past Madame President and Trustee. She was also a life member of VFW Auxiliary 3759 and member of American Legion Auxiliary 334, all of Carey.
Jacki is also survived by her daughters, Amber (Adam) Powers and Brianna Prater, both of Carey; four sisters, Lynn Wickham, Lesa (Dan) Hyatt, and Paula (George) Werts, all of Carey, and Robin McFaull of Phoenix, Arizona; two brothers, Tim (Lori) Bateson of Cincinnati and Kevin (Brenda) Bateson of Fostoria. She has spent the past over 20 years living in Carey with her companion, Charlie Dotson.
She was preceded in death by her father; and granddaughter, Alexa R. Powers.
Visitation will be 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, May 23, 2023, at Stombaugh-Batton Funeral Home, Carey.
Jacki's funeral will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 24, 2023, at the funeral home with Pastor Oyama Bishop officiating. Burial will follow at Spring Grove Cemetery, Carey.
Memorial contributions may be given in Jacki's name to Bridge Home Health and Hospice and sent to the funeral home.
