Dorothy (Lather) Smith

Dorothy (Lather) Smith, 96, of Avon Lake and formerly of Tiffin, passed away Wednesday, July 5, 2023, at Parkway Assisted Living in Avon Lake.

Dorothy was born April 18, 1927, in Fostoria, to Harry C. and Lillian (Esenwein) Lather. She married David C. Smith on June 7, 1947, in Tiffin, and he preceded her in death March 31, 2010.

Dorothy's survivors include her sons, Michael (Margaret Jackson) Smith of Naples, Florida, and Jeffrey (Rebecca) Smith of Badin Lake, North Carolina; daughter, Maureen (Andrew) Meeker of Avon Lake; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Dorothy was a wonderful wife, fantastic mother, and loving grandmother. She was a 1945 graduate of Tiffin Columbian High School and 1949 graduate of Wittenberg University.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents; husband; two sisters, Evelyn Manecke and Betty McKillip; and brother, Lavern Lather.

Dorothy's graveside services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 19, 2023, at Greenlawn Cemetery, Tiffin, with Pastor Paul Stengel officiating.

Engle-Shook Funeral Home & Crematory, Tiffin, is assisting family with arrangements.

Memorial contributions may be made to charity of the donor's choice.
