Donald Hampton Obituary

Donald Hampton Sr.

Donald Hampton, 79, of Fostoria, passed away Friday, September 12, 2025, at Independence House in Fostoria. "Don" was born October 14, 1945, in Willard, to Phil and Marjorie (Duncan) Hampton.

He was a 1963 graduate of Willard High School. He married Judith Marshall of Fostoria, January 30, 1965, in Fostoria, with the late Rev. Kenneth C. Marsenburg officiating. They remained married for 60 years until her death in July of this year.

Mr. Hampton was employed by Chrysler Corporation's Toledo Machining facility in Perrysburg for 30 years, retiring in 1997, and was a member of Bethel Baptist Church in Fostoria.

Don was an avid sports fan. He was a lover of all Cleveland sports teams and The Ohio State Buckeyes. He spent time as a father, grandfather and great-grandfather teaching, coaching and cheerleading at sporting events for all of the aforementioned. He also coached youth baseball for years and took pride in teaching young men the sport of baseball. He loved his extended family and never passed up the opportunity to gather at family events and share laughs. He will be remembered for his quick wit and ability to laugh even in the face of adversity.

Remaining to cherish Don's memory are his children, Cheryl L. (Gene) Keels, Donald Hampton Jr., Aaron C. Hampton, all of Fostoria and Alicia N. Risner of Toledo; 13 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; twin brother, Daniel Hampton of Fostoria; sister, Rosemary (Robert) Durr and brother, Kenneth (Cathy) Hampton of Willard; and a host of other nieces, nephews, family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his mother and father; sister, Barbara J. Smith; and brother, Phillip Hampton.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Monday, September 22, 2025, at HOENING & SON FUNERAL Home, 133 W. Tiffin St, Fostoria, with funeral services directly following, with the Rev. Jerry L. Copeland officiating. Interment will be at Fountain Cemetery in Fostoria.

Memorial donations in Don's memory may be directed to Bethel Baptist Church in Fostoria.

Coach, You made me better in more than just baseball. I can't express in words the positive influence you had on me as a young man; something I learned to appreciate even more when I became a dad and a coach myself. I am tremendously grateful and will hold your memory in honor. RIH. My heartfelt sympathies to the entire Hampton family.
