Cora Lutz Obituary

Cora Jean Lutz

Cora "Jean" Lutz, 97, formally of Old Fort, was called home to be with Jesus on Thursday, May 9, 2024, at Crystal Care Center in Mansfield.

Jean was born March 30, 1927, the seventh of 10 home births to Warren P. and Eurie M. (Feasel) Lynch. She was one of just five 1945 graduates from Bettsville High School. Afterwards, she began nurses training with the cadet corps in Toledo, but later quit to marry returning war veteran and the love of her life, William "Bill" Lutz, on Jan. 19, 1947, at Salem United Methodist Church, Bettsville. They had four children, Richard (Judy) Lutz of Colorado, Susan Lutz of Michigan, Bruce (Sue) Lutz of Wisconsin, and Amy (Mario) Lutz-Castellanos of Ohio, who all survive. Bill and Jean were blessed with nine grandchildren, Ricky, Holly, Andrew, Shelley, Heather, Jolie, Mara, Joseph, and Jana, 18 great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren.

After building their family, 50 years later, they were remarried in the same Bettsville church with her brother, Bob, officiating the ceremony, her sister, Shirley, and cousin, Jane, serving as bridesmaids for the second time, all four children standing with them as witnesses, and several grandchildren present. Jean wore her original wedding dress. Jean's dream of nursing was never lost. At over 40 years, she enrolled in Bowling Green Area School of Practical Nursing and graduated President of her class in Aug., 1969. She continued her career until retiring from Mercy Hospital in Tiffin.

Jean was always active, using her time and talent to serve at community and church events, as a cub scout leader, election worker, and food kitchen volunteer. She was an avid flower gardener, loved baking, and was especially known for her delicious pies and carrot cake. She attended Old Fort Methodist Church and was active in the Women's Club. Some of her fondest memories were traveling with her husband, Bill, camping, canoeing, hiking, and fishing. They traveled to most of the 50 states and made several trips to Canada and South America. One of their favorite adventures was a month-long, cross-country trip to Alaska.

Jean was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Bill Lutz; three brothers, Robert "Bob" (Vonnie) Lynch, Richard "Dick" Lynch, and Jack (Betty) Lynch; and three sisters, Alice Bushman, Beulah (Frank) Dumm, and Hazel (Joe) Hanson.

She is also survived by a brother, Bill Lynch of Kentucky; and sister, Shirley Burkart of Fostoria.

Jean's funeral will be 11 a.m. Thursday, May 16, 2024, at Hoffmann-Gottfried-Mack Funeral Home, 236 S. Washington St., Tiffin, Ohio, 44883, (419) 447-2424, with Pastor Marc Quinter officiating.

Visitation for family and friends will be 10-11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Burial will immediately follow at Pleasant Union Cemetery, Old Fort.

Jean asked that any donations be offered to The Children's Heart Foundation in honor of her grandson, Noah Riehm. Contributions can be made online or sent to The Children's Heart Foundation, 5 Revere Drive, Suite 200, Northbrook, Illinois, 60062.

I had the privilege to work with Jean at Mercy. She always took very good care of the patients assigned to her in whatever department she worked. I just thought about her the other day and the trips she made to South America to visit Amy and wondered if you still lived there. My deepest Condolences to your family.
