BAXTER CHAPEL - Tulay Albear, born on September 21, 1966, in Turkey, passed away peacefully on Monday September 15, 2025, at her residence in Granville, Tennessee. A remarkable individual, Tulay's legacy is one of dedication, accomplishment, and strength.
Prior to moving to the United States, she devoted her career as an instructor with the Turkish National Police, where she imparted her knowledge and skills to many. Her passion for martial arts not only defined her career but also led her to achieve outstanding accolades. Tulay was a proud four-time world karate champion while serving as a member of the Turkish National Karate Team. She made history as the first Turkish woman to medal in a world championship and showcased her fierce competitive spirit as the Champion of the US Karate Open in 2021. A distinguished member of both the US Association of Martial Artists and the International Karate and Kobudo Federation, she made a lasting impact in the martial arts community. In recognition of her exceptional contributions and achievements, she was posthumously awarded the 7th degree black belt.
Tulay is survived by her loving husband, Dr. Gus Albear, and her four sisters, Hulya, Senay, FitNat, and Denis. She is preceded in death by her parents, Kemal Kayacik and Ese Top Kayacik.
A funeral service honoring Tulay will be at 7 p.m. Thursday September 18 at the Baxter Chapel of Hooper Huddleston and Horner Funeral Home. Visitation will be Thursday from 5 - 7 p.m. Private burial will be at Shamans Ridge Cemetery.
A Celebration of Life is planned for Saturday September 20 at 7 Hawkes Dojo at 5495 Ensor Hollow Road, Granville, TN 38564 beginning at 11 a.m.
Tulay Albear will be remembered for her remarkable spirit, fierce determination, and the many lives she touched throughout her journey.
