Mary Lou Holm, age 78 of Lamont, went to be with her Lord and Savior Christ Jesus on Thursday morning, September 4, 2025. She was born on February 18, 1947 in Grand Rapids, Michigan to Stanley and Genevieve Brower.
In 1969, she graduated from Western Michigan University with a Bachelor of Science Degree. She went on to earn a Master’s Degree in Mathematics Education. That same year, a young man by the name of David mustered the courage to jump off the loading dock where they both worked to ask her out for a date. Thus began a blessed life as a devoted wife, a dedicated schoolteacher of 32 years, a loving mother, grandmother, and loyal friend. She taught business and math at Grand Rapids Christian School and Allendale Public Schools before retiring in 2003. Her joy was found in always being surrounded by her family. While many would highlight major achievements in life, her life would be marked by thousands of small acts of service to her family, her students, and all those she loved. She was a long-time member of Lamont Christian Reformed Church where she enjoyed baking over 70 dozen cookies every summer for the children at the Lamont Art Camp, each cookie meticulously crafted with the same number and color of candies. This was just one of many ways that Mary demonstrated her dedication to serving those that God placed before her and giving nothing but her best. Mackinac Island was a very special place to her; she and Dave visited every year for over 30 years, which included family trips where they could experience the island with their children and grandchildren. Mary found her greatest joy in time spent with her family. The only thing that came forth in larger quantities than the food out of her kitchen was the love from her heart. She was truly a kind soul who loved the Lord and mirrored the love of Christ; all values she passed on to her beloved children and grandchildren.
She is survived by her loving husband of 55 years, David Holm, daughters Cynthia (Luke) Stroven, and Deborah (Brent) Dyke, grandchildren Logan (Julia) Stroven, Camryn Stroven, Graham Dyke, and Lillian Dyke.
She is also survived by her brothers and sister, Jerry (Jane) Brower, Roger (Nancy) Brower, Barbara (Cal) Van Klompenberg, Gene (Pat) Brower, Jim (Esther) Brower, Dale (Jennifer) Brower, Cal Brower, sister-in-law Cheryl Lewis, and brother-in-law John (Bonnie) Holm, along with many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents Stanley & Genevieve (Scheur) Brower, brother Kenneth Brower, father and mother-in-law Harold and Dorothy Holm, and brother-in-law Ken Lewis.
There will be a time of visitation with family on Sunday, September 7th from 7:30pm to 9:00pm, and Monday, September 8th from 9am to 11am at Lamont Christian Reformed Church located at 4745 Leonard St, Coopersville, MI 49404. A funeral service will be held on Monday, September 8th at 11am, also at Lamont Christian Reformed Church, with Pastor Terry Slachter officiating. Burial will take place in Rosedale Memorial Park. A luncheon will follow. Memorial donations may be made to Lamont Christian School, 5260 Leonard St, Coopersville, MI 49404 or Allendale Christian School, 11050 64th Ave, Allendale, MI 49401. Condolences for the family may be left on Mary’s guestbook at www.throopfh.com.
