Margaret (“Bonnie”) Abel, passed away peacefully at the age of 85, on August 30, 2025 in Bradenton, Florida.
Bonnie was born to Timothy and Nancy (O’Connell) Gleeson on June 28, 1940 in New Rochelle, NY.
Bonnie had a long and successful career as a Postal Supervisor for the US Postal Service before retiring to Florida in 2000. She continued working part time in Florida, and also volunteered for many years at Moffit Cancer Center in Tampa.
Bonnie loved traveling home to Ireland over the years to visit friends and attend Gleeson family reunions.
She is survived by her daughter, Doreen (Abel) Perna, her son, John P. Abel Jr., her 3 grandchildren (Matthew Perna, Kristy Braschi and Alison Placido) whom she adored, and also her 6 great-grandchildren (Logan, Colin, Jack, Emily, Elena and Gino).
She was predeceased by her husband of 33 years, John P. Abel, who died in 1992, her sister, Patricia Cronin, and her two brothers, Kevin Gleeson and Timothy Gleeson.
She was the very best mom, wife, grandma, sister and friend, who will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
A celebration of life mass will be held for family and friends at a later date, and she will be laid to rest in Gate of Heaven cemetery in New York.
